Job Summary
The Tier 3 Middleware Support person will aid in the continued evolution of the Middleware infrastructure hardware and software associated with Digital Health Delivery Platform (DHDP). The DHDP is a shared technology platform that hosts numerous services, including the Digital Health Immunization Repository (DHIR), Integrated Public Health Information System (iPHIS), and the Digital Health Drug Repository (DHDR), among others. The incumbent will act as a senior member of the team across varied technologies providing software and hardware life cycle management. The duties of this position are performed in a 7 x 24 operational environment. This position interacts with project managers, clients, other technical teams and vendors on a regular basis to maintain a responsive and highly available infrastructure.
Specific Accountabilities
  • Integration and implementation of technical solutions to meet eHealth Ontario´s business requirements for infrastructure hardware and software, product offerings, client projects and initiatives
  • Responsible for Operational Documentation
  • Produce and/or guide those who would produce the technical implementation plans for infrastructure Middleware installation and configuration activities
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to Tier 2 and Technical Operation Center support personnel
  • Promote best practices and training during the lifecycle of a project producing a more robust and supportable environment
  • Assist in identifying cross-project dependencies and/or overlaps to ensure minimized duplication of efforts and/or ensure that conflicts do not arise
  • Consult and support the Delivery team and provide work effort estimates, project status, updates, risk
  • Provide technical support during the project life-cycle, bringing a broad view and a thorough understanding of the various environments and components that an application will face as it moves through to production
  • Support QA teams during testing phases
  • Troubleshoot functional and performance issues engaging the Architectural Team when necessary to help analyze and identify issues/problems and develop resolution plans
  • Research and evaluate external software and hardware tools
  • Plan and perform Middleware environment maintenance
  • Prepare and present data for management reports
Experience
5+ years of relevant experience with technologies noted below in an operational support or project delivery Middleware role.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Senior level technical skills with specialties in multiple technologies
  • Have a strong knowledge of a diverse set of technologies
  • Recent hands on experience building, configuring and supporting some/all of the following products:
Websphere Application Server NDM v.7/8 /8.5 and WLP Application Server Farms
IBM Data Power Virtual and Physical Appliance v.7/
IBM HTTP server v7/8
IBM Mobile First Platform v6
IBM Cognos 10/11
Docker Enterprise Container Platform
  • Experienced and comfortable working in a Red Hat Linux v.6/7 and Solaris v.10/11 environment.
  • Experience installing, configuring and supporting web servers, such as: Apache and IBM HTTP server would be an asset
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Delivery (CD) and related tools (e.g. GitLab) would be an asset.
  • Experience installing, configuring and supporting Oracle WebLogic Server and Layer 7 technologies would be an asset
  • Experience using Java EE framework, EJB 3.0, MDB, JSF, JavaScript
  • Must have applied experience using various scripting languages to automate IT processes
  • Detailed oriented with excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to analyze complex technical information to determine risk levels and technical feasibility when making changes to applications
  • Understanding of highly available/scalable architectures and disaster recovery techniques
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills allowing the incumbent to work to aggressive and critical timelines
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • ITIL certification preferred
  • Other relevant technology certifications would be an asset
  • A solid understanding of Incident, Change, and Problem Management methodologies is a must
  • Experience using tools and techniques for managing changes, incidents and problems (BMC Remedy or other similar tool)
  • Ability to create clear and concise build, operational and knowledge base documentation
Education
A university degree in Engineering, Computer Science or appropriate discipline - or equivalent.
Working Conditions
Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, with afterhours work required.
7x24 pager support on a rotation basis.
