Hospice Vaughan
Hospice Vaughan is a non-profit health care organisation that serves the city of Vaughan and its surrounding communities. It offers a 12-bed residential hospice. As part of the community since 1995, Hospice Vaughan also provides wrap-around support programs for clients, their families and the greater community including Health System Navigation, Caregiver Support, Day Programs, Wellness Programs, and Grief and Bereavement Support.
The Position
As a member of our development team, this new role is introduced as part of the growth of the Hospice Vaughan Fundraising Team. Reporting to the Associate Director of Philanthropy, you will be responsible for supporting the overall fundraising strategy and contributing to the achievement of the Hospice’s revenue targets by exploring and executing new and diverse fundraising opportunities to support Hospice Vaughan’s operations. Managing a portfolio of prospects and donors, the seasoned Development Officer will be responsible for personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporate and individual donors, with a special focus on donor acquisition at the major gift level, establishing recurring appeals, event sponsorships and fundraising proposals. You are a skilled communicator who generates financial resources by taking ownership of building strong relationships with potential partners, donors and institutions. Working in a small collaborative team, you will have an opportunity to grow your skills and be integral in building and advancing Hospice Vaughn’s presence and impact in the community, through fundraising efforts.
Our Team
The role reports to the Associate Director of Philanthropy and will be supported by a highly skilled team consisting of a Communication Specialist, the Events and Marketing Manager, and Database Administrator.
Primary Responsibilities
● Develops and maintains a good working knowledge of Hospice Vaughan, including programming, community need, and client impact.
● With support from the team, actively seeks out new prospects through research activities, re-engages past donors through outreach, and expands community donor base by implementing fundraising appeals.
● Supports the creation of fundraising channels (ie.., Major gift, event sponsorship, monthly giving and annual appeals) and resources for a variety of prospective constituents.
● Working with Communications and the Associate Director to prepare and submit highly relevant, compelling grant applications and proposals from multiple sources (government-federal, provincial, municipal, private foundations for profit corporations and individuals).
● Maintains relationship management records through Donor Perfect including historical and anecdotal information, meeting notes where significant moves are tracked in the system through pipeline management.
● Support all fundraising strategies with work plans, processes, timelines, logistics, and creation of resources.
● Collaborate with the volunteer Fund Development Committee, Board of Directors and other stakeholders to build a donor base through partnerships, introductions, webbing exercises and events.
● Coordinates special projects and campaigns as assigned.
Qualifications
● Preferred candidates will be located in Vaughan and familiar with community demographics, culture and history is preferred.
● Successful track record of developing and implementing fundraising strategies and major gift solicitations with demonstrated success in personally securing and closing major gifts.
● University degree or equivalent education or experience. CFRE designation is an asset.
● 5 years of progressive fundraising experience in the full scope of development activities, including annual appeals, events and Major Gifts.
● Proven competence in project management, multi-tasking, planning, analytical and organizational skills.
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, oral and writing skills.
● Ability to deal with the pressure of multiple timelines and priorities.
● Amiable personality and positive outlook with experience in collaborative community engagement to work with dedicated internal and external stakeholders.
● Work as a collaborative and flexible team player in a dynamic and fast paced team environment.
● Highly motivated self-initiative with the ability to work independently.
● Commitment to self-learning and flexible work style. This is a hybrid position with in-office expectations including occasional evening/weekend work.
● Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle is required
● Successful candidate is required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check
