About the Role
The Employment Trainer supports individuals receiving Employment and Income Assistance (EIA) in overcoming barriers to employment and achieving their career goals. Through individualized coaching, employment planning, and community resource navigation, the Employment Trainer empowers participants to build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to secure and maintain meaningful employment.
Working closely with participants, staff, volunteers, employers, training providers, and community organizations, the Employment Trainer creates opportunities and removes barriers to employment. The role calls for a participant-centred approach and a genuine commitment to helping individuals achieve long-term employment success.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet one-on-one with participants to assess needs, identify employment goals, and develop individualized action plans.
- Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and support throughout each participant's employment journey.
- Assist participants with job searches, online applications, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and workplace readiness skills.
- Help participants access relevant training programs, certifications, background checks, and other employment-related requirements.
- Connect participants with employment opportunities, workshops, community resources, and support services.
- Identify barriers to employment and coordinate appropriate supports, including accessible counselling services, community sharing circles, and other mental, emotional, cultural, and spiritual wellness resources.
- Conduct outreach and build relationships with employers, community organizations, and training providers to create employment pathways for participants.
- Maintain accurate participant records, case notes, and progress documentation.
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, partner organizations, and community agencies to ensure participants receive comprehensive support.
- Stay informed about training opportunities and community resources to better serve participants.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of employment services, job search strategies, and workforce development practices.
- Proficiency in online navigation, job search platforms, and basic computer applications.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
Assets
- Experience working with individuals facing employment barriers.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services.
- Social work experience.
