What you can expect in a typical day

Are you a marketing copywriter who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Do you love planning, organizing and working with a collaborative team? As our Communication Specialist , you’ll activate the Irving Oil brand for our internal clients through project leadership, creative and strategic messaging, and a timeline driven workstyle. You’ll successfully lead projects and campaigns by understanding your clients’ goals, and then working with our Creative Services team to build effective communication plans and creative material to achieve your clients’ objective.

This is a 12-month contract position which will introduce you to Irving Oil, our brand and our business.

Excellent computer skills i.e. MS Office, both Mac and PC environments
Professional, self-starter
Strong knowledge of communication trends and strategy
Understanding of social and digital trends

What you will do

Work within and be familiar with the agency-client model
Write, create and communicate effectively in all day-to-day work
Excel in creative writing for content including, but not limited to, POS messaging, social and web content Understand and active Irving Oil brand standards in all written material
Meet with clients and key stakeholders to discuss and identify their communications requirements
Validate and communicate the details of campaigns, audience segmentation and client objectives to the Creative Services team
Work with the Creative Services team to develop ideas, strategies, creative and comprehensive media plans which meet/exceed the client’s expectations
Identify, cultivate and propose new communication tactics and opportunities to clients
Work with the Media Planner to develop and activate traditional and digital media plans
Consult the Consumer Insights Managers to refine concept and messaging to align with identified audience segmentation
Present and prepare campaign concepts, strategies and tangible assets to the client which meet brand standards and campaign objectives
Act as the point of contact between the client and the Creative Services team by maintaining regular contact with both
Set and manage timelines and workback schedules for all creative deliverables to meet key milestones within a campaign
Maintain a flexible approach in client relationships and campaigns to ensure needs are met as they arise.


Travel is not a requirement for this position.

Education and experience

Degree in Business, Communications or English;
Minimum of 3-5 years in account services with an advertising/marketing agency;
Previous agency experience considered an asset
Enjoy presenting to small and large groups
