Position Overview
Sequoia Support Services is seeking compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Residential Child & Youth Workers to join our casual team.
This position provides support to children and youth living in a staffed residential setting. Casual employees play a vital role in maintaining continuity of care by covering scheduled shifts, vacations, sick calls, and other staffing needs.
Successful candidates will support youth with daily living activities, emotional and behavioral regulation, life skills development, community involvement, and implementation of individualized support plans. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to providing trauma-informed, person-centered care.
Casual Shift Opportunities
Casual staff may be scheduled for any of the following shifts based on operational needs:
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Awake Overnight Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Please note that casual employees are not guaranteed hours and must be available to accept shifts as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Support youth with daily living activities, personal care, meal preparation, medication administration (where applicable), and household routines.
- Build positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with youth while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Implement individualized care plans, behavioral support strategies, and intervention plans.
- Support the development of life skills, social skills, emotional regulation, communication, and independence.
- Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing home environment.
- Assist youth with accessing community resources, recreational activities, appointments, employment opportunities, and educational programming.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral incidents, crisis situations, and emergency situations while following agency policies and procedures.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily logs, progress notes, incident reports, medication records, and communication notes using ShareVision and other electronic systems.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, caregivers, social workers, healthcare professionals, and other community partners.
- Participate in team meetings, training opportunities, and ongoing professional development.
- Perform household duties including cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, yard maintenance, and maintaining a clean and organized living environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the rights, dignity, and privacy of all individuals supported.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Services, Human Services, Psychology, Criminology, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience supporting children, youth, or individuals with behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, trauma histories, or complex support needs is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in crisis situations.
- Comfortable using electronic documentation systems and programs including ShareVision, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs and perform physical aspects of care and support.
Required Certifications & Documentation
- Valid First Aid & CPR Certification
- Food Safe Certification
- Negative TB Test
- MCFD Criminal Record Check (HUB Clearance)
- Health Clearance Certificate
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Clear Driver's Abstract/Record
- Reliable vehicle with business-use insurance and minimum $3 million liability coverage (where applicable)
- Mandt Certification (training provided if required)

Job Type: Part-Time Casual
Pay: $27.00-$30.69 per hour
