Primary Function:
The landscape worker will be responsible for the following: maintain the appearance of planters, flower beds, and other grounds features by clearing refuse, weeding, watering, and planting new plants, trees, and shrubs. Trim and prune trees and shrubs, as required. Mow lawns, maintain edging, rake leaves, and perform other lawn maintenance. Remove and bag all organic waste for recycling. The landscape worker will also carry out other tasks, as required, to ensure that co-op community gardens are well-maintained.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- spread top soil, lay sod, plant flowers, grass, shrubs, and trees
- cut grass, rake, fertilize, and water lawns, weed gardens, prune shrubs and trees, and perform other maintenance duties as directed by supervisor
- train volunteers, assign tasks, and guide participants in garden maintenance
- ensure that grounds are safe and accessible for small and large equipment vehicles
- design garden layout, carry out soil management, prepare and plant flowerbeds
- monitor and maintain tools and gardening equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation
- maintain daily written records of landscaping activities
Qualifications:
- valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record would be an asset
- demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work with and without direct supervision
- excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with diverse groups of people in a respectful, enthusiastic, and courteous manner
- strong communication skills, able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
