Job Description

The Integration Engineer will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of the technology solution integrations to transform data and enable workflow automation for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. This role will evaluate new products, create integration solutions, and act as an SME to provide integration advice to external vendors, contracts and consultants. Proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of solution development and integration best practices are critical to successful performance in this role.


  • Design, install, configure, code, test and maintain integration engines and interfaces between clinical/building/business systems, medical devices and other IP devices with an eye towards privacy and security.
  • Work closely with the internal and external project teams and functional programs to understand business needs and identify possible integration solutions.
  • Lead the research of innovative and leading-edge technologies and develop integration solutions to meet business needs.
  • Evaluate new products, solutions and technologies, create prototype interfaces to test the feasibility and performance and make recommendations.
  • Monitor and test complex integration interfaces for potential issues, identify possible solutions and work with internal and external resources to implement those fixes.
  • Follow the best practices for solution development and testing process to ensure high-quantity products.
  • Monitor and access technical risks and act accordingly to explore options, consult and build agreement among various internal and external parties and resolve complex issues.
  • Document the design, implementation, support and operational procedures.
  • Participate in and contribute to the change management and service transition processes.

  • University degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent.
  • IT industry certification and continuous training of current technology are required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in IT or healthcare industry with two (2) years in integration engineering roles is required.
  • DBFM project experience is an asset.
  • Must have working experience with Epic EMR, Rhapsody and clinical applications such as PACS, LIS, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of interface and integration methodology (HL7, SOAP, Web Service, DICOM, FHIR etc.), database (SQL or Oracle), and programming languages (PHP, C#, Python, or Java).
  • Working experience in integrating cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.
  • Working knowledge of business and technical requirements analysis, business process modelling and methodology development, and data mapping.
  • Working experience in implementation of large scale and complex system integration in the healthcare sector.
  • Good understanding of risk management, privacy, e-safety, and quality assurance methodologies as they relate to integration/software engineering.
  • Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Able to adopt modern information technology and systems and an enthusiastic adopter of new and novel technology solutions.
  • Proven attendance record.
