You must meet all essential qualifications in order to be appointed to the position. Other qualifications may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency Master 500 GT Domestic or higher.
Radio Operator Certificate-Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC).
Watchkeeping and / or Command experience within the last five (5) years related to the position.

Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 95 Compliance
General Operator Certificate (GOC) issued under GMDSS.
Auto Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) Certificate
Bridge Resource Management (BRM) Training Certificate
Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) Training Certificate
Marine Advanced First Aid Certificate
Experience operating twin screw, and/or towing vessels employed in BC coastal waters.
Experience in supervision of ship's crews and /or ships officers.
Experience in managing a budget under the Federal Financial Administration Act.
Knowledge of Treasury Board financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge of DND Human Resource policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the Incident Command System (ICS).
Ability to operate small vessels in confined harbours.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Functional ability with Microsoft Office applications.
Administrative and managerial skills desired for office succession and promotional considerations.

Must meet the medical requirements of Health Canada in accordance with Treasury Board Guidelines.
Willing and able to stand sea watches.
Willing and able to work overtime and on weekends as required.
Willing and able to work away from homeport for set periods.
