Why join Sage as a graduate?

As a graduate, you’ll benefit from structured training and development programs designed to build your skills and confidence from day one. You’ll also have access to Sage Foundation, our global initiative that gives you five paid volunteer days each year to make a positive impact in your community.

What will you be involved in?
Our Graduate Sales Excellence Program is designed for graduates who are ambitious, commercially curious, and passionate about building relationships and driving business growth. You will experience core areas of our sales organization, developing a rounded understanding of the full customer lifecycle from first contact to long-term partnership.
During the graduate program, you will work in two or more of the following teams:
CS Foundation (8 months, all graduates will complete this rotation)
Before entering the sales organization, you will complete a foundational rotation in Customer Success. This eight-month placement is designed to give you a deep understanding of how customers experience Sage’s products after purchase, the adoption challenges they face, the value they are trying to unlock, and the commercial signals that determine whether they grow, renew, or churn. By the end of this rotation, you will be able to:
Identify and act on early churn risk by interpreting customer health, usage, and engagement signals, escalating with a clear recommendation to protect retention.
Translate adoption and usage data into a clear value narrative that links Sage capability to measurable customer outcomes (e.g., time saved, risk reduced, efficiency gained).
Support renewal readiness by contributing a structured value story and maintaining accurate, timely CRM data that reduces last-minute renewal risk.
Surface qualified expansion opportunities by recognizing growth signals in customer workflows and presenting a supported upsell/cross-sell hypothesis to Sales/Commercial partners.
Maintain forecast-relevant hygiene by updating stages, RAG status, health scores, and notes consistently so customer reality is visible to Commercial leaders.
Run adoption and value check-ins with increasing independence, ensuring customers progress through onboarding to stable, value-realizing usage.
Coordinate cross-functional responses (e.g., Product, Support, Services) to resolve blockers impacting adoption, renewal confidence, or growth potential.
Prioritize actions using commercial judgement, balancing customer value, risk, and effort when recommending next steps.
Produce a concise CS case example showing how your actions protected revenue, improved adoption, or created expansion readiness.
Sales Development
You will be at the starting point of Sage’s revenue engine, identifying, qualifying, and engaging potential customers. You will learn how to prospect effectively, handle objections confidently, and hand over warm opportunities to the wider sales team. This rotation builds the foundations of a sales career: resilience, curiosity, and the ability to communicate value quickly and clearly.
Retention and Renewal
You will work closely with existing customers to ensure they continue to see value in Sage’s solutions and renew their contracts. This rotation focuses on listening, understanding customer needs, and demonstrating long-term value. You will develop skills in account management, negotiation, and proactive relationship building, learning how to turn a renewal conversation into a growth opportunity.
New Customer Acquisition
You will work as part of a team focused on winning net-new business, taking prospects through the full sales cycle from first conversation to signed contract. You will learn how to run structured discovery conversations, build compelling business cases, present solutions to decision-makers, and close deals. This is where you will develop your consultative selling skills and commercial instinct.
Channel and Partner Sales
You will support Sage’s network of channel partners and resellers, helping them sell Sage solutions more effectively to their own customers. This rotation develops a more strategic perspective on sales, teaching you how to enable others, manage indirect relationships, and think about market reach and commercial impact at scale.
Please note that this is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
During your time on the program, you could also be involved in:
Managing a pipeline of opportunities across your rotation area, tracking activity and progress in Sage’s CRM
Conducting discovery calls and needs assessments to understand what customers and prospects are trying to achieve
Preparing and delivering tailored presentations and demos that translate complex software solutions into clear business value
Collaborating with marketing, product, and customer success teams to ensure a joined-up customer experience
Analyzing sales data and pipeline metrics to identify trends, prioritize activity, and report on performance
Exploring how AI and automation tools are being used to improve sales productivity, prospecting, and customer engagement
This development program is designed to give you meaningful, hands-on experience across the full sales organization from day one. With the support and space to learn, ask questions, and grow, you will build the skills, commercial acumen, and confidence needed for a long-term career in sales or business development.
What we’re looking for
To be eligible for this role, you’ll need to hold a degree in any discipline. We value a wide range of academic backgrounds. What matters most is your drive, your ability to communicate, and your genuine interest in business and customers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to present ideas clearly and persuasively to a range of audiences
Numeracy and commercial awareness, with confidence in working with data, interpreting pipeline metrics, and understanding the financial drivers of a business
An ability to explain complex software solutions in plain language, translating technical features into tangible customer benefits
A natural ability to build trusted relationships with customers, colleagues, and partners based on honesty, reliability, and genuine interest in their success
A competitive, results-driven mindset with the resilience to handle rejection and keep improving
A proactive, self-starting attitude, taking initiative and not waiting to be told what to do next
A curious mindset that embraces change, learns quickly, and is genuinely interested in how businesses work
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to adapt your communication style and work effectively with colleagues, customers, and partners across different levels and functions
