The Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa announces the opening of applications for a recruitment process with the objective of filling, on a permanent basis, 01 (one) vacancy for a general services assistant (housekeeper) at the Residence in Ottawa.
THE POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate will perform their duties at the Ambassador’s Residence and is expected to perform a wide range of household functions, including, but not limited to:
I. cleaning and conservation of the Residence’s p remises and basic care with plants;
II. laundry, ironing and priming of clothing belonging to the residents and guests;
III. event and meal servicing and waiting;
IV. answering the phone and attending the entrance doors and gates;
V. performing general domestic services.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The following are the requirements for application to the present selection
process:
a) minimum age of 18 years;
b) completion of primary education;
c) good conduct;
d) oral communication skills in English (knowledge of Portuguese is not mandatory, but will be positively taken on account );
e) for Brazilian or third-country nationals: legal residence status and authorization to work in Canada;
f) for Brazilian nationals, the following additional requirements apply:
- not hold any p ublic office, p ublic emp loyment, or public function in Brazil;
- be up to date with electoral obligations; and
- for male candidates, comp liance with Brazilian military service obligations.
SALARY
CAD 3,250.00 per month, subject to mandatory social security and tax deductions in accordance with local legislation. Additionally, a meal allowance will be granted, not greater than 20% of the gross monthly salary, currently equivalent to CAD 650.00 (six-hundred fifty Canadian dollars).
CONTRACT TERMS
The contract will be for one (1) year, renewable successively for equal and consecutive periods, unless either party objects. There will be an initial paid probationary period of three (3) months.
The local employee will work 40 hours per week and may be called upon to perform on duty shifts in situations of operational necessity. Any additional hours will be recorded in a time bank and may be taken as compensatory for time off, subject to agreement with the employer.

ii. résumé (in English or Portuguese);
iii. proof of prior professional experience as a housekeeper;
v. proof of residence;
vii. copy of certificate of completion of primary education;
ix. for all candidates, a Level 1 police clearance certificate issued by Canadian authorities (https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/reports-and-requests/policerecord-checks.aspx);
x. for Brazilian nationals, a criminal record certificate issued by the Brazilian Federal Police (https://servicos.pf.gov.br/epol-sinic-publico/);
xi. for Brazilian or third-country nationals, proof of legal residence status and authorization to work in Canada;
xii. for Brazilian nationals, also submit:
- copy of electoral clearance certificate issued by the competent Brazilian authority (https://www.tse.jus.br/eleitor/certidoes/certidao-de-quitacaoeleitoral);
and
- for male candidates, copy of proof of comp liance with Brazilian military service obligations.
