Position Title: Elementary Music Teacher

Position Summary
Selkirk Montessori is seeking a part time Elementary Music Teacher for a one year maternity leave.
This job is .5 FTE over 3 days with a focus on choral music with choirs or mixed grade groupings through grade 6. Responsibilities include two school musicals (primary and middle school) and an extra-curricular “Triple Threat” or similar group.
Key Responsibilities
We are accepting applications from candidates with the following:
Education:
· Bachelor of Education with a focus on Music or Music Education degree
· Expertise and creativity in teaching music in an inspiring and inclusive way
Experience:
· With elementary children
· Working in a school setting
· Teaching choral music
· Collaborating on and preparing for school concerts
· Introducing beginner instruments
· Experience with musical theatre productions with elementary and middle school students is an asset
· Collaborating with community resources and events
Other skills and qualities:
· Excellent communication skills and rapport with students
· Joy for working with youth of all different experiences and abilities
· Ability to build creativity into the process of learning music
· Investment in developing a culture of celebrating and participating in music through curriculum, special events, and extracurricular opportunities
· Strong organizational skills
Music is a valued and celebrated part of Selkirk Montessori’s school culture. Our students have the advantage of a strong music program right from age three. They have, generally, developed a love of music and enjoy the opportunity to influence their own experience. Candidates would appreciate the flexibility and challenges of an enthusiastic core of choral music students experienced with musical theatre, choir, and reading music for the variety of instruments introduced in the upper grades by our band teacher. This teacher in this position works closely with our Strings and Band Teacher.
