Kawartha Lakes Construction | Lakefield, Ontario
Full-Time Maternity Leave Contract
Kawartha Lakes Construction is looking for an experienced residential construction professional to lead our Small Projects & Estate Care division during a maternity leave.
This is not a traditional construction project management role.
You will manage smaller residential renovations and construction projects while also overseeing the ongoing care of properties for established KLC clients throughout the Kawarthas.
The common thread is ownership.
Our clients expect someone who understands construction, communicates well, makes sound decisions and follows things through. We are looking for someone who can take responsibility for the work, the client experience and the financial performance of the projects and services they manage.
What You’ll Own
You will be responsible for the day-to-day performance of Small Projects and Estate Care, including:
- Managing smaller renovations and residential construction projects from initial inquiry through completion.
- Developing scopes of work, estimates, budgets and schedules.
- Coordinating trades, vendors, materials and internal resources.
- Managing client communication and expectations throughout the work.
- Overseeing and executing Estate Care visits, property inspections and seasonal services.
- Identifying construction and property issues early and ensuring they are properly resolved.
- Conducting site visits and quality inspections.
- Building and maintaining a dependable network of trades and service partners.
- Holding vendors accountable for quality, responsiveness, professionalism and cost.
- Leading Service Technicians and other field resources supporting the division.
- Monitoring project costs, protecting gross margin and identifying financial risks early.
- Ensuring work is properly documented, billed and closed out.
- Improving systems and processes as opportunities are identified.
This is a hands-on management role. You will spend time in the office, on project sites and at client properties throughout the Kawarthas.
You do not need to be swinging a hammer every day, but you do need enough residential construction knowledge to walk onto a site, understand what is happening, recognize when something is not right and know what needs to happen next.
The Person We’re Looking For
- We need someone who understands that managing construction is about more than schedules and trades.
- You take ownership.
- You communicate before the client has to chase you.
- You see an issue and deal with it.
- You can build strong relationships with trades while still holding them accountable.
- You understand budgets and know that a successful project has to work for both the client and the business.
- You are organized enough to manage several priorities at once, but practical enough to know which one actually needs your attention first.
- And above all, you care about doing the work properly and leaving the client confident that their project or property is in good hands.
- You may currently be a Residential Project Manager, Renovation Project Manager, Small Projects Manager, Site Supervisor, Construction Service Manager or an experienced residential construction professional ready for broader responsibility.
- Your current title matters less to us than your ability to confidently own the work.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for:
- Strong residential construction or renovation experience.
- Experience managing projects, clients, trades and schedules.
- A practical understanding of residential construction and building systems.
- Ability to read drawings, scopes, estimates and budgets.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
- An understanding of project costs and gross margin.
- High standards for quality, accountability and follow-through.
- A valid Ontario G driver’s licence.
Knowledge of Ontario building codes, construction safety requirements and residential renovation practices is an asset.
