Pipeline & Carbon Capture
Compensation: $70/hr — $145k annually at 40-hours per week, excluding overtime.

The project
An industrial pipeline and well build tied to carbon capture infrastructure — the kind of work that ends up in the ground and stays there.
Multidisciplinary from day one: civil, structural, mechanical, and piping all moving at once, with real construction happening on a real schedule. You would be leading the engineering through design development and into construction execution, working directly with the founder rather than through layers of sign-off.
It is a carbon capture credential on a build-phase project, which is a hard combination to pick up anywhere else right now.
The role
You lead engineering design development through construction execution. Day to day that looks like:
- Driving design development from concept through IFC, and holding the line on constructability
- Managing permitting and regulatory submissions through to approval
- Owning the RFI and submittal cycle — turning them around fast enough that the field never waits on engineering
- Evaluating and processing change orders, with the technical judgment to know what is a real scope change and what is not
- Coordinating contractors and vendors across all four disciplines, and resolving the interface problems before they become schedule problems
- Being the technical authority the field calls when something in the ground does not match the drawing
What you bring
Required
- P.Eng. — APEGA registration, or eligibility for transfer
- 6+ years of pipeline, compression, and/or carbon capture construction experience
- Genuine multidisciplinary depth — civil, structural, mechanical, and piping. You do not need to be the deepest expert in all four, but you need to speak all four fluently and catch what falls between them
- Strong working knowledge of CSA-Z662 and/or ASME B31.3 / B31.4 / B31.8 piping codes and standards
- A track record of running scope independently. This role has autonomy because it needs someone who does not require oversight
- Based in Calgary, and able to travel to the US for site work (valid passport required)
Helpful, not required
- Direct carbon capture project experience — adjacent pipeline and facilities work transfers well here
Who you would be working for
Kontour Projects Inc. is a Calgary consultancy founded by a professional engineer registered in Alberta and British Columbia with more than 14 years delivering major energy infrastructure, including leadership roles on Coastal GasLink and Prince Rupert Gas Transmission, and carbon capture developments since.
The firm covers the full arc of a pipeline project — routing and development, design coordination, procurement, permitting, construction management, and field execution — rather than handing drawings over a wall and walking away.
That background matters for this role specifically. Engineering decisions here are expected to hold up in front of owners, contractors, and regulators, and the person reviewing yours has stood in that room. It is a small enough shop that you would have direct access to the founder and real influence on how the work gets done. If you are coming from a large EPC and are tired of being one layer of many, that is the trade on offer.
Why this one
- Actually remote.The design work happens wherever you are, with occasional office days in Calgary for direct collaboration with the founder. You manage your own hours and location, provided engineering keeps pace with a construction schedule that never slows down.
- Hourly, with overtime. You are a salaried T4 employee, paid hourly. When the schedule demands extra hours, you are paid for them instead of absorbing them. And when things are quiet, the schedule flexes back. Most engineers at this level have spent years eating unpaid overtime on a fixed salary — this is the other arrangement.
- Design leadership. You lead the engineering design and execution decisions, working directly with the founder rather than through multiple layers of review.
- Build-phase work. Design that actually gets constructed, on a schedule, with your name on it.
- Carbon capture exposure. A sector with a long runway, and a project that adds a hard-to-get credential to your résumé.
- Built to last. This is not a staffed-up-for-one-project role. Kontour is hiring for the long term, and the intent is that you grow with the firm.
