The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Activity Leader 3 – Sewing Instructor”.
Activity Leader 3 may work with a team or independently, and is responsible assisting in the planning, facilitation, and implementation of recreation programs to a variety of age groups. Recreation Programming categories include: sports, arts, special interest, cooking, dance, and more. Activity Leader 3 also assists with the training, supervision and mentorship of volunteers and Activity Leader 1 and 2 positions. Activity Leader 3 will ensure the safety and confidentiality of all participants, take attendance, and perform program set up and take downs. Hours of work will vary from 0-35 hours a week, and may include evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
Education Requirements:

High school diploma.

Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education, social services, recreation, educational assistant, or relevant/similar field.
Occupational Certificates, Licenses, Association Memberships:

Criminal Records Check

High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (recommended)

Level 1 First Aid or willing to obtain

Food Safe or willing to obtain

Class 4 licence or willing to obtain
Experience:
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a recreational, sports, educational or childcare setting.

Experience working with people of a variety of ages and abilities.

As this position may work independently, they must be a minimum of 16 years of age to meet Employment Standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Have a strong commitment to providing recreational programming.

Knowledge of basis program planning.
-
Ability to facilitate programs while maintaining participant safety.

Ability to assist with the coaching and mentoring of volunteers and staff.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Ability to actively participate in recreation programming

Willing to be available for daytime hours and work a flexible schedule Monday-Sunday
The current hourly wage range for Activity Leader 3 is $23.50 - $38.00, cased on skills and experience, plus an additional 12.4% in lieu.
