Description
The Department of Alumni Affairs in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Associate Director, Alumni Engagement.
Reporting jointly to the Senior Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs, Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and to the Executive Director, Alumni Engagement, UCalgary, the Associate Director is responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of strategic objectives related to alumni engagement within the CSM.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Strategic
-
Set and achieve broad strategic alumni communications, prospective alumni interactions and special events objectives, in support of the Alumni Engagement program

Assist with the creation and execution of an approved CSM Alumni Engagement integrated plan
-
Recommend improvements/additions/deletions to events and alumni communications on an ongoing basis

Participate as a member of the UCalgary Alumni Leadership Team
Leadership
-
Supervise staff and volunteers in the coordination and execution of current alumni activities
-
Manage reunion volunteer involvement. Assist with reunion planning
-
Function as a knowledge leader for the UCalgary Alumni Engagement staff and mentor and teach others
Partnerships
-
Develop and maintain productive relationships with other leaders and members of the university, with alumni, and the external community
-
Develop strong relationships with the CSM Fund Development and Communications portfolios
-
Connect/communicate with UCalgary Alumni Engagement and Development Office, to inform/update/involve partners
-
Develop relationships with other University Alumni Offices across the country and benefit from their experiences
Operational

Create and independently manage the budget for Alumni portfolio

Project manage the annual Alumni of Distinction program
-
Manage the development of event and communications evaluation tools to assess the success/potential for improvement of each, as well as their value to the Alumni Engagement program at the CSM
-
Provide a central point of contact for all CSM alumni inquiries

Have primary responsibility for directing the management of CSM alumni-related BBCRM and Tableau activity, including creating mailing lists and custom queries and reports, and updating alumni databases

Direct and support activities related to the Medicine Alumni Advisory Council

Manage and maintain the CSM Alumni webpage

Exercise leadership in developing a workplace that adapts to change and that is client oriented. Educate the faculty and support staff of the CSM about Alumni Engagement and its place in the CSM. Observe ethical principles in keeping with the University's mission and values
Ensure all communications reflect the current CSM brand and the policies of the University of Calgary

Qualifications / Requirements:
-
An undergraduate bachelor's degree is required
-
Minimum of five years' experience in communications or related field is required
-
Minimum of three to five years' experience in alumni engagement is required
-
Minimum of three years' experience within the Cumming School of Medicine, or within a medical faculty at another institution, is required
-
Experience in a series of positions of increasing scope and responsibility, demonstrating an ability to take on increasingly complex assignments with a significant leadership/management component
-
Significant experience in area of event planning and implementation. Strong writing/editing skills are required

Prior successful management experience is desirable
-
Detailed understanding of communications disciplines, including marketing, communications, promotion, special events, print and online publication production and management, and reputation/identity management is required
-
An excellent understanding of and experience in communications and stakeholder/community engagement is required
-
The individual will be recognized as a superior performer in his or her field with the ability to assume greater responsibility

Strong fiscal management and budgeting skills are required

Well-developed project management skills with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated time management skills are required

The individual will be able to work independently, without close supervision

Knowledge of university core business systems (Blackbaud CRM, Marketo, Drupal, Submittable, Qualtrics, Tableau, PeopleSoft) is a requirement. (BBCRM training provided)

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, and respect for confidentiality are required
