The Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to day operations of the Human Resources Department, including the administration of human resources policies, procedures and programs that will provide an employee-orientated, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, standards and goal attainment.
The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Payroll, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, performance, and talent management.
Responsibility:

Assist in the development, implementation and administration of HR policies and procedures and their dissemination through various employee communications.

Analyze HR problems and recommend solutions.

Act as the local representative to implement PIA Life programs.

Act as first point of contact for employee inquiries.

Maintain integrity of human resource databases, computer software systems, and manual filing systems.
-
Assist with managing yearly performance reviews and smart goals.

Keep up-to-date on legislation requirements.
Key Focus Areas:
Payroll:
-
Prepare and process payroll using ADP Workforce Now.
-
Maintain records on sick leave, vacation and other absences.
-
Prepare reports for Timeclock, Attendance, Leaves, Vacation, Training, Banked time.
Recruitment:
-
Support the staffing process, including identification of career. development needs and preparation of job descriptions.

Write and post open position advertisements utilizing internal/external resources.
-
Review applications/resumes; evaluate applicant skills and make recommendations regarding applicant’s qualifications in conjunction with department managers and subject matter experts; phone screen and interview job applicants.

Develop and maintain relationships with employment agencies, universities and other recruitment sources.

Attend and conduct Career and job fairs.

Manage Co-op programs with universities.

Respond to public inquiries regarding job opportunities within PIA.
On-boarding/Off-boarding:

Prepare all new hire paperwork and orientation package and conduct new employee orientation.

Process paperwork for terminated employees.

Create onboard training agenda for new hires.

Administer and explain benefits and pensions to employees and serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers.
H&S
-
Create, review and update Health and Safety Policies, Procedures and records.

Ensure all Safety training is up to date for all employees and complete WSIB paperwork as required in conjunction with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and Department Managers.
Position Requirements

Post graduate degree or certificate in Business Administration or related field

CHRP designation preferred
-
Three or more years of HR generalist experience

1+ years of ADP Workforce now experience, with emphasis on ADP Payroll processing

Experience in a manufacturing environment an asset

Broad understanding of HR principles, techniques and procedures including Federal and Provincial employment laws

Ability to maintain a strict code of confidentiality and use of discretion

Strong PC aptitude and skills, including intermediate experience with Microsoft office

Strong oral and written communication skills, sound judgment
