About Us: The Dam Pub is an established, award-winning Scottish Gastropub and Whisky Bar in Meaford. We take pride in serving high-end, scratch-made gastro fare—from classic pub favourites to elevated daily features—alongside our world-class whisky program. We are proud to be a year-round staple in the Grey County community, offering a professional, organized, and collaborative kitchen environment.
We are looking for a local or regional culinary professional who wants to build a long-term home with a dedicated team that treats staff like family.
The Role: We are seeking a structured, passionate Sous Chef to work hands-on alongside our leadership team. You will be a key player in managing line execution, maintaining our high standards for food quality, and fostering a positive, respectful kitchen culture. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong line cook ready to step up, or an experienced sous chef looking for a stable, year-round position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a steadfast focus on our main menus, consistently upholding the exceptional standards we have built for our customers over 20 years. This means preserving our reputation for high-quality food, flavor profiles, precise cooking methods, and impeccable presentation.
- Lead by example on the line during high-volume lunch and dinner services.
- Assist with prep management, ordering, and inventory control to maintain strong margins and minimal waste.
- Help train, mentor, and motivate a tight-knit kitchen team.
- Maintain strict standards of kitchen cleanliness, food safety, and organization.
- Collaborate on daily features and seasonal menu ideas.
What We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience in a high-volume, scratch kitchen (elevated casual or fine dining preferred).
- Strong leadership skills with a calm, organized approach to service.
- A deep pride in local culinary standards and consistent execution.
- Current Food Handler Certification.
- Reliable transportation.
What We Offer:
- Predictable Work-Life Balance: We offer a set schedule with a Wednesday–Sunday operation, ensuring two consecutive days off (Monday and Tuesday).
- Competitive Compensation: Starting at $22.00 per hour plus tips. We actively reward talent, and a wage increase will be readily discussed for the candidate who demonstrates excellent kitchen skills, reliability, and a strong commitment to food safety and cleanliness. For the right fit, this position also offers a distinct path for upward mobility and future kitchen leadership.
- Year-Round Stability: Permanent employment with steady hours.
- A Great Work Culture: A supportive, positive kitchen environment where your reliability and culinary expertise are genuinely respected and rewarded.
