THE ROLE
STRIVE Recruitment is partnering with a leading publicly traded North American organisation operating within the environmental services sector to recruit a Controller for their Abbotsford operations.
While you'll oversee the accounting function for the district, this role is equally focused on partnering with operations and helping drive business performance. You'll work closely with the District Manager and operational leadership team, providing financial insight, influencing decision-making, and translating financial results into meaningful business recommendations.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on, building relationships across the business, and taking ownership of both the numbers and the operational story behind them.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the full month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Prepare annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and variance analysis
- Partner closely with the District Manager and operational leaders to provide financial insight and support business decisions
- Translate financial results into meaningful recommendations for non-financial stakeholders
- Prepare capital expenditure requests and supporting financial analysis
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies
- Support Accounts Receivable activities when required and collaborate with Shared Services teams, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Cash Management
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and operational efficiencies
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and special projects
- Supervise one direct report while fostering strong relationships across the wider finance team

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- CPA designation is required
- Previous experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, or Senior Accountant looking to take the next step
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Experience providing financial analysis and business partnering to operational stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence non-financial leaders
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to support the wider finance team when required
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems
Experience within manufacturing, distribution, transportation, logistics, construction, environmental services, industrial, wholesale, or other asset-intensive industries will be highly regarded.
