We are currently hiring two Assistant Managers to join our retail beverage alcohol team at two of our locally owned liquor stores in Halifax. Position Overview
As an Assistant Manager, you'll be the trusted partner to the Store Manager, helping lead daily operations, support team development, and ensure an exceptional shopping experience for every customer.
This role combines hands-on leadership, customer service excellence, merchandising, inventory management, and operational oversight. You'll play a key role in creating a positive team culture while helping drive store performance and maintaining the high standards our customers have come to expect.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations & Leadership
- Support daily store operations and act as Manager-on-Duty when required.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Monitor store performance and help achieve operational and sales objectives.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming store environment.
Team Development
- Coach, support, and develop retail team members through ongoing feedback and leadership.
- Foster a positive, engaged, and high-performing team culture.
- Support employee training and onboarding initiatives.
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and customer-focused service.
Customer Experience & Sales
- Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a welcoming shopping experience.
- Build customer loyalty through product knowledge and personalized recommendations.
- Support sales growth by engaging customers and motivating team performance.
- Assist customers with beer, wine, spirits, cider, and ready-to-drink product selections.
Merchandising & Inventory
- Support merchandising initiatives, displays, and promotional programs.
- Maintain store presentation standards and product availability.
- Assist with inventory management, stock replenishment, receiving, and inventory controls.
- Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional materials are accurate and up to date.
Compliance & Cash Controls
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support cash handling, loss prevention, and inventory control processes.
- Maintain standards related to age verification, responsible alcohol retailing, and workplace safety.
Qualifications & Essential Skills
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Previous experience as a Team Lead, Supervisor, Assistant Manager, or similar retail leadership role.
- Experience in beverage alcohol, hospitality, food service, or specialty retail is considered an asset.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 20 kg (50 lbs).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to teamwork.
Education
- High school completion preferred.
Working Environment
This position operates in a busy retail environment with a steady flow of customers and frequent interaction with team members, vendors, and suppliers. The role involves standing for extended periods, lifting merchandise, and moving throughout the store.
