Job Description
A leading commercial HVAC and mechanical services provider in the Ottawa region is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Technician to support its growing commercial installation team. In this role, you install and fabricate HVAC ductwork, interpret mechanical drawings, and work on a variety of commercial projects while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Responsibilities

Install commercial HVAC duct systems, including supply, return, and exhaust ductwork in various commercial facilities.

Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications to plan and execute installations accurately.

Fabricate and assemble sheet metal components using both shop and field tools.

Measure, cut, and shape sheet metal to precise dimensions to meet project requirements.

Seal, fasten, and support ductwork in accordance with SMACNA standards and best practices.

Perform field modifications and custom fitting of ductwork and components as required on job sites.

Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols, site regulations, and company procedures.

Collaborate closely with HVAC installers and project teams to ensure efficient, on-schedule project execution.

Troubleshoot and repair sheet metal and ductwork issues as needed during installation or retrofit projects.

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
Essential Skills-
308 Licensed Sheet Metal Technician or registered apprentice level.

3–5 years of experience in commercial sheet metal installation.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, duct installation, and sheet metal fabrication.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.

Hands-on experience with sheet metal installation, repair, and assembly.

Demonstrated ability to install commercial HVAC duct systems, including supply, return, and exhaust.

Valid Working at Heights certification.

Valid Scissor and Boom lift certifications.
-
Ability to work safely and maintain compliance with site and company safety protocols.
-
Strong attention to detail with the ability to measure, cut, and shape sheet metal accurately.
Additional Skills & Qualifications-
Brazing skills, with Brazing TSSA Certification considered an asset.

Experience with siding installation.

Experience with aircraft sheet metal work is an asset.

Experience with structural sheet metal and sheet metal repair.

Ability to collaborate effectively with HVAC installers and broader project teams.

Strong problem-solving skills for field modifications and custom fittings.

Work Environment
Work is primarily commercial and based in the Ottawa region, including facilities such as schools, government buildings, correctional facilities, banks, and other institutional sites. The position follows a Monday to Friday schedule, typically working 8.5-hour days starting around 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. and finishing around 3:30 or 4:30 p.m., with overtime available as project needs require. The role involves frequent use of lifts and working at heights, as well as regular handling of sheet metal tools and HVAC installation equipment in active construction and retrofit environments.
