Position Overview
The Director of Retail Operations will oversee site-level operations, fuel supply continuity, safety compliance, and operational risk management across the network in Atlantic Canada. This role will be responsible for operational leadership of the retail network, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations across all sites while supporting continued expansion.
Accountable to work closely with other internal teams responsible for network development construction, convenience retail, and foodservice, allowing the Operations team to remain focused on execution, reliability, and operational performance at the site level. The Director will bring seasoned experience managing multi-site retail operations and will be comfortable operating in a high-accountability, growth-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
Retail Network Operations
- Lead operational performance across a network of fuel and convenience retail sites.
- Provide oversight and support to territory managers and regional teams.
- Establish clear operating standards and performance expectations across the network.
Fuel Supply & Operational Continuity
- Ensure reliable fuel supply to all locations, including inventory monitoring, logistics coordination, and management of run-out risk.
- Coordinate closely with supply and logistics partners to optimize deliveries and site tank management.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E)
- Maintain best-in-class safety and environmental compliance across all sites.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company safety standards.
- Lead incident response, investigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational Risk & Compliance
- Manage operational risks related to fuel handling, environmental exposure, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain operational controls and reporting frameworks.
Field Leadership
- Build strong relationships with territory managers and regional teams.
- Drive operational discipline, accountability, and performance culture across the network.
Growth Support
Provide operational input into network expansion including site readiness, operating procedures, and integration of new locations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Retail Management or other relevant discipline.§
- 10+ years of operational leadership experience in multi-site retail, retail fuel, logistics, or related industries.
- Experience managing distributed field operations across multiple locations.
- Strong understanding of fuel retail operations, logistics, and site compliance is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership in health, safety, and environmental management.
- Experience overseeing site operations systems, POS platforms, and operational technology.
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive operational performance in a growing organization.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly to job sites.
