This position works in Burnaby arenas, with a focus on arena operations and programming. This is recreation leadership work involving the supervision of ice and dry floor programs, including skating lessons, drop-in skating, and floor programs. The role includes overseeing contractual instructors, auxiliary staff, and volunteers, particularly in skating programs where a high level of skating proficiency is required to effectively supervise and support instructors. This position enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behavior and safety are maintained; the primary focus is on ensuring safe, inclusive, and high-quality arena-based recreational experiences. This role assumes responsibility for the operation and security of the recreation facility on assigned shifts and/or in absence of a supervisor. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include the completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You will bring sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre. You will have working knowledge of ice skating and other pursuits related to various recreational, social and cultural programs. You have the ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities and/or assist in coordinating event arrangements. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Emergency First Aid Certificate, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate – Level C with AED Certificate are required for this position. Pay Rate: $31.58 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
Location: Bill Copeland Sports Centre, Kensington Complex, Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, which may include on-call shifts. Shifts can range from Monday to Sunday between the hours of 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM. Daytime and weekend availability is considered an asset.
