Nature & Scope
The Online Learning Content & Curriculum Developer plays a key role in developing high-quality, age-appropriate curriculum and digital learning experiences for YMCA BC’s LEARN platform. This role is responsible for working closely with subject matter experts to gather, interpret, and translate research, program knowledge, and best practices into clear, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning content, activities, and assessments. The Developer will apply instructional design principles to ensure curriculum is accurate, accessible, learner-centered, and aligned with learning objectives, audience needs, YMCA values, and brand guidelines.
Working in a collaborative environment, this role will support curriculum development from research and concept through storyboard, course build, review, and launch. In some courses, the Developer will conduct research directly and then coordinate review and validation with the appropriate subject matter expert to ensure content accuracy and relevance. The role also supports the creation and maintenance of online courses within the LMS, contributing to quality assurance, accessibility, learner experience, and continuous improvement throughout the course development lifecycle.
Major Responsibilities
Dependent upon the skills and competencies of the successful candidate, the Online Learning Content and Curriculum Developer can expect to be tasked as follows:

Curriculum Development – Develop age-appropriate curriculum, learning activities, assessments, facilitator or learner resources, and supporting materials that align with learning objectives, audience needs, YMCA values, and online learning best practices.

Research Translation – Review, interpret, and translate research, program information, and subject matter expertise into clear, engaging, accessible, and developmentally appropriate learning content.

Subject Matter Expert Collaboration – Work closely with subject matter experts to gather information, clarify learning outcomes, validate content accuracy, and incorporate feedback throughout the course development process.

Writing & Copy Editing – Write, revise, and copy edit course content, scripts, storyboards, learner instructions, knowledge checks, and supporting resources to ensure clarity, consistency, accuracy, tone, grammar, and alignment with YMCA brand standards.

Storyboard & Course Content Development – Create and refine storyboards, course outlines, and content plans that clearly communicate instructional flow, learner interactions, visuals, assessments, and digital build requirements.

Research & Content Validation – Conduct research for assigned courses when required and coordinate subject matter expert review to ensure course content is current, evidence-informed, accurate, and relevant to the intended audience.

Project Coordination & Organization – Manage multiple curriculum development projects at various stages, maintaining clear timelines, documentation, version control, review cycles, and stakeholder communication.

Quality Assurance – Review courses and materials for accuracy, accessibility, learner experience, instructional quality, formatting, and consistency prior to launch.

Digital Course Development Support – Support the build, revision, and maintenance of online courses within the LMS or authoring tools, ensuring curriculum intent is preserved in the final learner experience.

Continuous Improvement – Gather feedback, review learner experience, and recommend improvements to curriculum, templates, workflows, and course content over time.
Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and direct work experience.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, learning content development, education, or a related field.

Strong writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex research and subject matter expertise into clear, engaging, age-appropriate learning content.

Strong proficiency with e-learning software and course authoring tools, with preference given to candidates with at least 2 years of hands-on experience building courses in Articulate Storyline.

Working knowledge of instructional design principles, curriculum development processes, accessibility standards, and quality assurance practices for online learning environments.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with subject matter experts, gather and validate content, incorporate feedback, and support review cycles from concept through course launch.

Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, documents, versions, and competing priorities.

Collaborative, customer-focused, and positive, with a willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing priorities or ambiguous project requirements.

A self-starter with the ability to initiate work, make sound decisions, solve problems creatively, and see projects through to completion.

Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references.

Successful candidate will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
