Looking for a new and exciting opportunity? We are looking for a Supervisor – Equipment Trades - HEW to join our team!
In this role, you will support the leadership and supervision of the Building Equipment Section within the Plant Maintenance Department. You will oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, HVAC, pumping, fire protection, and other building systems across TTC tunnels, stations, and facilities. Responsibilities include managing preventative and predictive maintenance programs, coordinating planned and emergency repairs, leading equipment replacements and construction projects, and ensuring quality, performance, and reliability standards are met.
Other responsibilities of your role will include:
- Coordinate section activities with other Plant Maintenance groups, TTC departments, and external agencies.
- Maintain effective communication systems to provide timely updates and operational information.
- Develop, implement, and regularly review standard operating procedures, work methods, training, and compliance programs (including permits, licensing, and apprenticeships).
- Identify workplace hazards, communicate risks to staff, and ensure appropriate safety controls are in place.
- Review and respond to internal and external audit findings and quality control data to support a state of good repair across facilities.
- Address employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, discipline (Step 1 grievances), and representation at arbitration or legal proceedings.
- Monitor workforce capacity, including staffing levels, vacancy management, and managing absenteeism.
- Keeping informed and investigating new technology, equipment, tools and procedures for continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver technical training programs to ensure workforce readiness for existing and new equipment.
- Reviewing and approving designs, drawings and specifications for maintainability.
- Oversee procurement and inventory management of parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications.
- Participate in departmental and external stakeholder meetings (e.g., City of Toronto, regulatory bodies, advisory committees).
- Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.

- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- Must have a certificate of qualification in either HVAC refrigeration and gasfitter 1 licence or 309A Construction and maintenance certificate.
- Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance management procedures and techniques applicable to the repair, maintenance, replacement and construction of mechanical, structural, hydraulic, electrical power, electrical control and computerized monitoring systems related to building/facility equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project/program management principles, practices and techniques.
- Project Management Professional certification would be considered an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and regulations such as Technical Standards & Safety Authority, Canadian Standards Association, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ministry of Environment regulations, Electrical Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, Employment Standards Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods etc.
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, spreadsheet and data base systems and word processing systems.
- Good knowledge of business administration and budgeting principles.
- Strong knowledge of human relations principles, with the ability to set clear, achievable goals and effectively motivate, guide, and manage a diverse team including professional staff, supervisors, skilled trades, and support employees.
- Must possess sound judgement; highly developed organizational, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communications skills.
- You currently have a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class "G" driver's license in good standing and use of own vehicle is necessary for site inspections.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
- Must attend and successfully complete the Training Department’s program for Subway/SRT Rule Book certification, and any other in-house or external courses as directed by management (including recertification as appropriate) encompassing effective supervision, safety, environmental and technical courses related to the work.
- Must have or must rapidly acquire sound knowledge of the policies and procedures applicable to the Toronto Transit Commission and the Plant Maintenance Department.
- Must become familiar with the appropriate sections of the ATU Local 113 and CUPE Local 2 collective agreements, seniority regulations etc.
