The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Controller and based at our Big Molly facility, the Plant Accountant is responsible for cost control initiatives at the facility. The successful candidate will oversee the monthly variance analysis and understand the impact of various activities on production costs while working closely with the operations and finance teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and reliable financial information, analysis and support to the operations team; effectively utilizes data to improve profitability
- Participate as part of a coordinated team in Operational decision-making and long-range planning activities; Develops annual budgets and maintains rolling forecasts
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reporting to support ongoing operations
- Conduct monthly variance analysis, keying in on opportunities for improvement
- Coordinate the submission of capital cost initiatives with ROI for approval
- Engagement with Operations, Leadership and Finance, Attend daily plant meetings
- Ensure that all required reporting has been completed within the proper and associated business platform and communicated appropriately thereafter (i.e. relating to Operations, Safety, Quality, Compliance, Finance, etc.)
- Assist in the ongoing promotion of a culture that promotes safety, inclusion, innovation, productivity, and collaboration
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
- 5+ years relevant experience preferred, applicants with direct industry experience would be prioritized; Sand Processing, Mining, Logistics etc.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain financial plans
- Strong knowledge of Excel
- Motivated leader who has the ability to build rapport with small teams in fast paced environments, while having the ability to hold people accountable
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information
- Ability to analyze & interpret data and leading indicators relating to financial, production and quality metrics
- This position requires commitment to travel to site every day, occasional travel to Calgary is required; Clean Class 5 Drivers License and reliable transportation
