As part of the company-wide Communications team, the Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for the creation, coordination, and implementation of digital content to support the online storytelling and branding initiatives of Urban Systems (both internally and externally). We are looking for an exceptional writer who is well educated and practiced in online communications including social media, blogging, website content and other relevant forms of online communications and marketing.

The Specialist will be focused on planning, creating, managing and analyzing Urban Systems’ social media channels, providing relevant content that reinforces Urban’s brand and key messages; and will manage the day-to-day online presence, including website content and blog posting. The Specialist will work with the company communications team on developing a digital strategy to ensure brand alignment across all digital platforms and will play a major role in strategic marketing and communications implementation to increase visibility and engagement.

As this position is part of our company-wide communications support team, it is possible to work out of a variety of locations including Calgary, Vancouver, Surrey or Kelowna. In this role you will work directly with all branches to support business development and will support company-wide internal initiatives, as well as company-wide external communications.

About You

Skills and Abilities

Develop and execute on a content calendar that identifies opportunities for engagement and visibility and supports communications and marketing objectives
Provide direction and advice from a digital perspective for communications planning
Plan, develop/craft and post social media, blog and website content
Monitor, analyze and compile reports on data analytics across all social media, blog and web platforms
Proactively advise on improvements and enhancements
Curate, develop and/or manage all published content (images, video, etc.)
Ability to create graphics for all social media pages using Adobe Creative suite based on brand and style guidelines
Monitor, engage and interact directly with social media audiences to address inquiries and drive positive sentiment and advocacy while exercising sound judgement by leveraging our social media platforms – LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
Collaborate with IT and company communications team to optimize SEM for websites and social media platforms, as well as ensure consistency and relevance of website content
Update website content as required, ensuring a continuous approach to monitoring
Collaborate on oversight of the company intranet site, and generate engaging content
Video and/or design capabilities considered an asset

Qualifications

Degree/diploma in marketing, communications, public relations or multimedia (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Minimum five years’ experience in social media demonstrating success with community growth and engagement
Resident expert in social media tools and community management (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Hootsuite, blogging, etc.), trends, applications and emerging opportunities
Proficient in Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google AdWords
Strong writing skills with ability to write in a manner that aligns with best practices for various online channels
Organized, flexible, able to prioritize and takes initiative
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and planning skills
Positive and enthusiastic team player, with a strong relationship building skills
Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook
Committed to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients
Committed to continuous growth and learning
Experience in graphic design (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), photo and video production considered a strong asset
