Zeballos Elementary Secondary School
Vancouver Island West School District 84 is seeking an outstanding educational leader for the position of Principal of Zeballos Elementary Secondary School, K-12, enrollment approximately 40, effective August 1, 2021.
Located on the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island, School District 84 delivers public education to approximately 300 students in the four communities of Gold River, Kyuquot, Tahsis, and Zeballos. Zeballos School is in the Village of Zeballos, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Ehattesaht/Che: k’tles7et’h’ Nations. Zeballos School’s mission is to improve language and numeracy skills and to provide a graduation program that is relevant to local needs of the students. The educational and support staff work closely together in this modern, well-equipped facility to provide all students with a successful learning experience.
The Village of Zeballos and surrounding area is a favourite destination for many kayakers, sports fishers and nature lovers who want to leave the crowds behind and experience the rugged coast of the Island. The road to Zeballos turns west off Highway 19 just north of Woss, and then becomes a 36-km well-maintained logging road to the Village. The nearest service centers are Port McNeill (1.5-hour drive, population 3500) and Campbell River (2.5-hour drive, population 30,000). Affordable rental housing in a District teacherage is available, with moving, isolation and professional development allowances paid.
The Principal will be an energetic team leader who can inspire by example, encourage innovation and build on existing strengths. The position includes a teaching component.
