Peterborough Regional Health Centre is a growing regional health centre of excellence. The Spiritual Care Provider participates as an integrated member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, responding to the diverse spiritual and religious needs of our patients, families, staff and volunteers within the hospital. The Spiritual Care Provider engages and advocates for the care and treatment of the whole person (spiritual, physical, psychological, mental and social) during their hospital experience.

Responsibilities:
Contributes as a collaborative member of the Spiritual Care and interprofessional teams and as an independent professional throughout the hospital
Advocates for the spiritual and religious dimensions of care as an integral member of the interdisciplinary health team
Promotes the significance of spiritual care as a key to facilitating spiritual health within the hospital
Initiates, encourages, advocates to improve the spiritual awareness and health of patients, families, staff and volunteers who are indicating spiritual distress, end of life care or other significant transitions, decisions and events
Assesses the spiritual, religious and cultural care needs of patients, implements appropriate intervention plan, charts and refers to other professionals as indicated
Provides compassionate, person-centred and family-focused care with a well-integrated understanding of theology and behavioural science
Provides support to staff as they provide care to patients and families, including during crises, loss, challenging situations
Leads and co-ordinates services, rituals and prayer and other related activities to meet the needs of patients, family members, multidisciplinary staff and volunteers
Facilitates the ministry of community clergy and multi-faith representatives within the hospital and relationships with community groups, volunteers, and faith leaders
Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to developing a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and team work with ethical practices and behaviour
Takes initiative, is self-directed and resourceful with the use of time, during a shift, responding to spiritual needs of patients and families, through referral or rounding and follow-up visits as needed
Co-ordinates after hours on-call spiritual care coverage and continues to recruit and arrange training for community on-call spiritual care providers
Contributes to the development of a Spiritual Care Volunteer team
Deals effectively and co-operatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public
Maintains current, professional knowledge and maintains clinical excellence by demonstrating commitment to continued professional education and self-development
Provides spiritual care consistent with and models PRHC’s mission, vision and values

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree
Master’s degrees with focus in Theological/Religious/Psychospiritual Therapy Studies
4 units - Basic and Advanced units of supervised Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training from the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC), Certified as Specialist with CASC preferred, or its USA equivalent, or willing to pursue certification within one year
Registered Psychotherapist (RP) designation with the College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) preferred
Multi-faith certification
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Spiritual Care Provider/chaplain in a health care setting
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of patients, families, health care staff
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, strong clinical documentation skills, critical thinking, time management skills, and demonstrated leadership ability
Practices and promotes resilience, individually and interpersonally
Demonstrates spiritual and personal development
Good work and attendance record required
Computer skills with Microsoft Office and Outlook
Leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to present research based educational topics
Demonstrated ability to maintain a good attendance record and meet the performance standards of the Health Centre
