Hiring: Head Tailor for South Asian Alterations Studio
Dr. Lehenga is looking for a highly experienced Head Tailor to join our growing South Asian alterations studio in Scarborough.
This role is for someone who can confidently work on all types of Desi / South Asian clothing, including:
Lehengas, shararas, ghararas, sarees, blouses, salwar suits, kurtas, sherwanis, bridal outfits, partywear, and other traditional garments.
This experience is non-negotiable. We need someone who has strong hands-on skill with shortening, slimming, tightening, reshaping, and sometimes reconstructing outfits. You must be comfortable working with delicate fabrics, heavy embroidery, lining, can-can, borders, beadwork, and very heavy bridal lehengas.
Quality is the most important thing for us. At the same time, we need someone who can work at a good professional speed and manage work properly.
Requirements:
- Strong experience with South Asian clothing alterations
- Ability to handle heavy bridal lehengas and complicated outfits
- Excellent finishing and attention to detail
- Experience with shortening, slimming, tightening, resizing, and reconstruction work
- Basic English communication is required
- Experience dealing with clients directly
- Good understanding of customer vision, fashion/design, and fit
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience guiding or working with junior tailors, assistants, or partner tailors
- Reliable, professional, and organized
Bonus skills:
- Experience with men’s suits, blazers, and formalwear
- Custom stitching experience, especially women’s blouses
- Bridal or boutique tailoring experience
Pay:
Starting pay is $22/hour, but higher pay is available depending on skill level, speed, experience, and overall ability.
