The Opportunity

Reporting to Sr Director Global Medical Affairs, the Medical Science Liaison will be a part of the Canopy Health Innovations Medical Affairs team. Medical Science Liaison engages in balanced, objective scientific exchange with health care professionals to facilitate scientific discovery and informed treatment decisions. The successful candidate will be required to build robust, long term cross functional relationships with Healthcare Professionals while upholding all company, industry, legal and ethical standards.

  • Manage the team of MSLs (2) and responsible for all scientific exchange activities in QC and east region
  • Participate in the development of the scientific exchange plan, KOL mapping and effectively creates regional KOL engagement plans consistent with regional and global strategic plan
  • Active participant to the regional commercial cross-functional team and provide input to the brand cross-functional team
  • Appropriately review emerging data with HCPs discussing benefits and risks in a scientific, objective and balanced way
  • Assess, propose and implement regional speaker tours and symposia that meet the educational needs of the region
  • Work with HCPs as scientific consultants to engage in scientific activities aligned with corporate projects such as advisory boards, speaker programs and clinical trials
  • Provide the company with insights from regional HCPs, their practices and related key issues and trends in patient management
  • Act as regional (field based) subject matter expert in the lifecycle management of products in a variety of therapeutic areas
  • As part of the scientific exchange identify opportunities for research with HCPs and, where appropriate, connect these opportunities to Canopy Health Innovations (CHI) as part of the IIR program and portal.
  • Provide value added support to key clinical trial sites by providing relevant scientific expertise on the products being investigated either during site initiation or shortly thereafter
  • Collaborate with CHI’s clinical operations group in helping to ensure successful recruitment of clinical sites
Job responsibilities will be further refined and customized as reflective of the broad applicability of this role and critical importance in the interest of business needs.

  • MD, Ph.D. or Pharm.D. is required (MSc also considered)
  • 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry as Medical Science Liaison, managing experience is a valuable asset
  • Strong ability to effectively synthesize and communicate scientific information at a peer level with a physician. They must be able to connect with the HCP using the appropriate level of communication that facilitates the relevant exchange of scientific information.
  • Experience in the therapeutic area of pain, psychiatry or neurology is preferred, however, the incumbent may at times be required to change therapeutic areas to adapt to business needs.
  • Expert knowledge of the health care environment with regards to key opinion leaders, academia and the medical community in general
  • Excellent ability to learn and capacity for scientific concepts and knowledge
  • Effective and demonstrated strong communication (both verbal and written) and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills
  • Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Travel required (Local, Regional, with possibility for some international)
  • Fluent in English & French (speaking & writing)
