This is an advanced clinical position responsible for providing assessment, treatment and follow-up, consultation/collaboration, and referral services to children, adolescents, and their families presenting with varied and complex mental/behavioral health needs. In addition, the consultant teaches these skills to family physicians within an innovative interdisciplinary primary care mental health service. Given the complexity of patients referred to the Shared Care Consultant by the primary care provider this position requires advanced clinical skills.
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Nursing with Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Nursing (with training & experience in mental health assessment & provision of psychotherapy). Registered and in good standing with applicable professional college (College of Alberta Psychologists, Alberta College of Social Work, College of Registered Nurses of Alberta). Minimum 10 years post-degree experience in assessment and treatment of mental/behavioural health disorders, preferably in mental health settings. At least 1 year experience in community-based primary care working with family physicians. Experience in shared/collaborative mental health care providing assessment, treatment, education, research, evaluation, and clinical leadership. Training in evidence-based interventions and change theory. Ability to build collaborative relationships, coach/consult, and support capacity building for physicians using adult learning principles. Strong clinical judgment, interpersonal, communication, documentation, and computer skills. Valid driver’s licence and access to vehicle; travel required within Calgary and area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Superior knowledge of the mental health system, services and resources and ability to facilitate referrals of primary care provider’s patients. Knowledge of DSM-V and medications used in the treatment of mental health conditions. Self-directed, innovative, flexible and capable of working both autonomously and in collaboration with health professionals.
