Sexual Assault Counsellor
BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, Vancouver, $34.26 to $42.73 per hour
What you’ll do
Provide brief phone or in-person intervention counseling and referral services for women who have been seen by BC Women’s Sexual Assault Services (SAS) at Vancouver Hospital, and consent to follow up contact, within 48 hours of being assessed at Vancouver Hospital.
Provide support (on request), therapeutic counseling and referral services for patients, staff, family, and visitors at C&W who have been sexually assaulted or have concerns related to sexual assault.
Maintain confidential patient files and documentation of telephone and in-person contacts with sexual assault survivors seen by SAS and those referred on-site.
Collaborate with the SAS team, plans, coordinates and evaluates community outreach and education/training for the local Sexual Assault Program. This includes establishing the goals and objectives, taking requests, discussing and planning the nature and content of the specific outreach or education/training with SAS team members, working out logistics of schedules, communicating with all participants as required, establishing the framework, implementing the evaluation, and preparing a summary report of findings.
What you bring
Masters degree in Counselling, Adult Education, Social Work, or equivalent degree, from an accredited educational institution with specific training and certification in Sexual Assault or Violence Against Women in Relationships, or equivalent training/education and experience.
Current registration with the relevant training body, as required. In-depth knowledge of the issues surrounding sexual assault; experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating community outreach and education/training, within a multidisciplinary team designed for health care, providers from other sectors, and the public.
Five (5) years related work experience in community and hospital organizations providing counseling, advocacy and referral to those who have experienced sexual assault or relationship violence.
