Department Overview
The Wealth Investment Office (WIO) is committed to providing institutional-grade investment strategy, portfolio management and goals-based models and portfolios for private clients. We set the standard for investment strategy and portfolio management ensuring portfolios are process driven, goal-based, positively risk adjusted, scalable, efficient and compliant across TD Bank Group’s Wealth Management division — including Financial Planning, Private Investment Advice, Private Investment Counsel and Family Office. WIO is a place for professionals who love to manage money and get excited about the opportunity to consult with others on how to build and manage investment portfolios. This is not a place for people stuck in neutral. WIO is a dynamic, multifaceted, multi-channel group working on numerous priorities and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
WIO provides holistic portfolio management, counsel and guidance across a broad range of investment methodologies including traditional, endowment and risk-aware allocations. WIO is the portfolio manager of Core Asset Allocation, Core Equity, CoreQ Quantamental Equity, and Risk Priority Portfolios.
WIO plays a role in the education and ongoing support of TD Wealth advisors through numerous internal and client-facing publications, as well as presentations, seminars and one-on-one communications to advisors.
DESCRIPTION:
The role will be to support the Senior Equity Portfolio Managers as an equity analyst with sector-specific and generalist coverage of public equities.
The equity analyst will conduct fundamental equity research primarily on large cap North American equities, to generate actionable investment ideas, and keep investment views updated.
One key objective will be to apply research skills in a multidisciplinary approach to contribute to portfolio construction, sector allocation and security selection using macroeconomics, fundamental equity research, and quantitative analysis, in a dynamic portfolio management team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducting in-depth company and industry research to evaluate equities and generate actionable investment ideas for the WIO Core fundamental and CoreQ quantitative equity portfolios
Building and maintaining financial models to assess operating and financial inflection points and equity valuation
Staying highly informed of material news flow in sectors under coverage, alerting portfolio managers in real-time of events relevant to equity portfolio holdings and watch list ideas
Participating in weekly investment team meetings, including pitching top buy and sell ideas, contributing to market update call content, and recording minutes
Participating in conference calls for the investment advisor field, presenting market analysis and sector updates
Contributing to various WIO publications on a monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc basis as well as contributing to and/or preparing WIO's daily morning market client note 'Before the Open'
The successful candidate will:
Be passionate and curious about investing in equity markets and have a strong desire to build a career in investment management
Be a keen 'stock-picker' driven to seek out investment opportunities and risks to make trading recommendations towards generating positive alpha to outperform benchmarks and peers
Be highly proficient at comprehensive fundamental and quantitative analysis at the macroeconomic, industry, and company-specific level
Be highly proficient at analyzing and interpreting large amounts of financial data related to equities, credit markets, economics and political events
Excel at presenting data and conclusions in written and chart form (must be an Excel “guru”)
Have excellent time management and organizational skills with an ability to work under pressure, within tight timelines, and efficiently prioritize multiple work streams with strict attention to detail
Be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently while also collaborating with the team and contributing to team goals
Ability to verbally communicate research findings clearly as well as through both first-draft written articles and first-draft written presentations. Charting (creative) is a critical skill
Have strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with an ability to provide investment views in a clear and concise manner
Work well with others and have a positive mindset that emanates a natural passion and enthusiasm for the role and as a member of the WIO team
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation or nearing completion (level two minimum)
Master's level degree in a quantitative discipline is preferred
A minimum of five years' (seven+ preferred) experience working in public equity markets, preferably in buy-side or sell-side fundamental equity analysis covering large cap North American equities
Expert knowledge of one or more GICS sectors
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office is a must, particularly advanced visualization of data in Excel
Proficiency in financial software applications (FactSet, Bloomberg,) for data sourcing, quantitative analysis and modeling
