The benefits of a model-based construction process are obvious, but you cannot achieve them without some extra effort. Interoperability is still an issue when different project participants with diverse design systems and varying maturity levels try to cooperate. Models that are out of date or incompatible undermine the benefits of Virtual Design & Construction.
Someone has to coordinate the process and check that the model files actually work together. The Virtual Construction Coordinator starts by setting up goals for the project’s BIM workflow: the kind of models they are, why they will be created, and how they will fit together. The Coordinator then carefully maintains a collection of models from different sources and makes sure that the information is interoperable and up to date.
A Virtual Construction Coordinator can provide many value-added services during a project, like requirements management, quality check-ups, quantity takeoffs, clash reporting, construction scheduling and data conversion.
The successful candidate will work directly with the project team to assist in project delivery throughout design and construction utilizing Building Information Modeling tools. They are also responsible for creating and managing 3D building models to be used for visualization, constructability analysis, building systems coordination and construction sequencing.
Produce models for proposals and presentations to support the pursuit effort.
Develop, manipulate, and maintain 3D models for specific projects for use during preconstruction and construction phases.
Analyze models provided by Architects and Design Engineers & adjust for evaluation, planning and production.
Perform and Document Quantity take-off reports.
Generate 3D/4D Site logistics plans.
Create 4D visualizations to communicate Schedule and sequence of work.
Create/Render Virtual mock-ups.
Create Presentation material/visual aids.
Manage coordination of work with subcontractors utilizing Navisworks.
Run clash detection, document clashes, and track through Clash Report.
Provide regular QA/QC field walks to ensure field installations and match coordinated models.
Record and Report project data for case studies.
Maintain high level of competency of software through continued use and training.
Assist project leaders in the field through the complete lifecycle of building projects through the production and use of 3D models.
Coordinate, manage, and manipulate models created by design team partners, subcontractors, and vendors.
Assist and oversee coordination day-to-day responsibilities.
Track coordination progress on assigned projects.
Building virtual models from plans, specifications and elevations.
Producing and maintaining 3D models for various projects.
Create visually compelling marketing materials, 3D presentation images, walkthrough videos and 4D animations.
Prepare animations which navigate a virtual project site and produce rendered photorealistic images of future buildings for new projects.
Assist in preparing guidelines and processes for project requirements and in the development of BIM plans and strategy.
Must possess the ability to standardize, support, and present BIM solutions to architecture, engineering and construction professionals
Proficiency in BIM software programs such as; Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
Proficiency in software programs MS Office - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, & Excel experience.
Software such as; Solibri, Sketch Up, 3D Studio Max, ArchiCAD, Bentley, Digital Project, Tekla, is a plus
Other software programs such as; Adobe Photoshop, Google Earth is an asset.
Collaboration and Data Management Solutions such as; BIM 360 Glue, BIM 360 Field, ReCap is desired.

Specific design or coordination experience with structural and M&E system would be an asset.
The ability to translate 2D drawings and specifications into a complete 3D/4D Building Information Model (BIM)
Knowledge of how a building is constructed and the various building components that are part of each stage
Ability to read schedules and understand the scope
Excellent project management, communication, multi-tasking and leadership skills
Working knowledge of construction practices, materials, means and methods
Participate in problem solving efforts for the projects through the use of BIM applications.
Work with the project scheduler to include information within the project schedule that allows the linking of a task to a BIM object. This includes ensuring all BIM objects are appropriately drawn by Trade Partners and Designers. Additional simulations may also be required as necessary to direct field input.
Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination, and fabrication.
Knowledge of industry standards, workflows, data formats and interoperability techniques
Content Creation and Management tools.
The successful candidate must have graduated from a recognized architectural, engineering or construction management program (minimum 2 year program).
In lieu of degree, a minimum of five years of BIM/CAD experience.
Combination of technical training plus extensive experience/knowledge of Design, Manufacturing, Construction & Building Operations preferred.
2 or more years of project experience coordinating projects using virtual construction tools and techniques.
The successful candidate must be willing to work on active construction sites when required. They must also be willing to travel throughout British Columbia to support the Virtual Construction efforts on projects from time to time.
