Position Summary
As a Florist / Floral Designer / Floral Assistant, you will be responsible for designing floral arrangements, assisting customers, maintaining flower quality, processing orders, and ensuring our shop remains attractive and welcoming. This role requires creativity, attention to detail, excellent customer service, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFloral Design & Production
- Design and create fresh floral arrangements, bouquets, vase arrangements, sympathy flowers, wedding flowers, corsages, boutonnieres, and seasonal floral designs.
- Create custom floral arrangements according to customer preferences, occasions, budgets, and colour themes.
- Prepare floral arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, funerals, corporate events, holidays, and special occasions.
- Assemble gift baskets, fruit baskets, gourmet baskets, balloon bouquets, and other gift combinations.
- Wrap bouquets and gifts professionally using appropriate floral packaging and decorative materials.
- Follow company quality standards to ensure every arrangement is fresh, attractive, and professionally finished.
Flower & Plant Care
- Process incoming flowers by trimming, hydrating, conditioning, and storing them correctly.
- Monitor flower freshness and remove damaged or expired products.
- Water and maintain indoor plants and blooming plants.
- Rotate floral inventory to minimize waste and maximize freshness.
- Maintain proper storage temperatures and care procedures for flowers and plants.
- Assist in ordering and receiving fresh flowers, plants, and floral supplies.
Customer Service
- Welcome customers warmly and provide exceptional customer service.
- Assist customers in selecting flowers, plants, gifts, balloons, greeting cards, and gift baskets.
- Recommend suitable floral arrangements based on occasions, preferences, and budgets.
- Answer customer inquiries in person and over the phone.
- Take accurate orders for walk-in, telephone, and online customers.
- Resolve customer concerns professionally while maintaining a positive shopping experience.
- Build long-term relationships with repeat customers through excellent service.
Order Processing
- Prepare and process online, website, telephone, and in-store orders accurately.
- Ensure all customer instructions, delivery details, and special requests are recorded correctly.
- Coordinate with delivery drivers to ensure orders are prepared on time.
- Verify completed arrangements before delivery or customer pickup.
- Meet production deadlines during busy holidays such as Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.
Merchandising & Store Presentation
- Create attractive floral displays that encourage customer purchases.
- Refresh window displays and promotional areas regularly.
- Restock flowers, plants, gifts, vases, containers, balloons, plush toys, chocolates, and accessories.
- Ensure shelves and displays remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Maintain a welcoming, clean, and visually appealing retail environment.
Retail Operations
- Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system efficiently.
- Process cash, debit, credit card, and gift card transactions accurately.
- Balance cash drawer and follow store cash-handling procedures.
- Assist with inventory counts and stock replenishment.
- Receive shipments and organize inventory in storage areas.
- Label products and update pricing when required.
Teamwork & General Duties
- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve daily production and sales goals.
- Assist with opening and closing store procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, coolers, floral buckets, tools, and equipment.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
- Support coworkers during peak business periods and seasonal holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support daily store operations.
Qualifications
- Previous florist, floral design, retail, gift shop, or customer service experience is an asset but not required.
- Creativity with a strong eye for colour, balance, and design.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Friendly, positive, and customer-focused attitude.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn.
- Comfortable standing for long periods and lifting flower boxes, buckets, and supplies.
- Weekend and holiday availability is required during peak floral seasons.
