The Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for daily maintenance planning, work prioritization, and resource allocation, ensuring the reliability of critical building systems while supporting uninterrupted patient care. Responsibilities include overseeing work order management, coordinating planned shutdowns, supporting construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control requirements, and promoting continuous improvement initiatives related to facility operations, energy management, and asset performance. This leadership role is responsible for workforce planning, performance management, attendance management, staff development, contractor coordination, procurement support, and maintaining strong working relationships with clinical departments, external partners, and service providers. The Supervisor also champions workplace health and safety by participating in hazard assessments, incident investigations, safety training, and Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committee activities. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and solutions-focused leader with a Journeyman Trade Certificate or Third Class Power Engineering Certificate, demonstrated supervisory experience in a healthcare or similarly complex facility, and strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance management practices, applicable codes, and safety legislation. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to balance operational priorities while maintaining a safe, reliable, and patient-focused environment. Required Qualifications:
Alberta Journeyman Certificate in a recognized building trade (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural or related) or a Third-Class Power Engineering Certificate. Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or plant operations. Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience leading skilled trades or maintenance teams. Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, applicable building and fire codes, and occupational health and safety legislation. Experience coordinating preventative and corrective maintenance programs in a complex operational environment.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and performance management skills. Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization abilities with experience managing multiple competing priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, contractors, clinical teams, and external partners. Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and equipment manuals. Knowledge of contractor management, procurement processes, and project coordination. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills with a focus on safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a hospital or other complex healthcare environment. Knowledge of CSA healthcare standards, including infection prevention and control requirements during construction and maintenance activities. Experience working in a unionized environment, including interpretation and application of collective agreements. Experience with Oracle, or other enterprise asset management systems.
