STRABAG is actively seeking a General Accountant for our Canadian division where he/she can utilize their knowledge to contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization. The successful candidate will work at the main office in Mississauga, Ontario.
Job Summary:
The General Accountant / Analyst will be responsible for general accounting functions, including processing journal entries, intercompany transactions, GL accounts reconciliation, fixed asset accounting, financial reporting, and other day-to-day accounting and finance operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Support with the month-end, quarter-end, year-end closing process including audit requests and preparation of financial close working papers with minimum supervision
· Maintain the fixed asset ledger, ensuring timely and accurate recording of asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
· Review and reconcile fixed asset subledger to the general ledger monthly
· Maintain detailed documentation for asset additions, disposals, impairment, and revaluations.
· Reconcile general ledger accounts including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, deposits, accrued liabilities, and investigate discrepancies identified in the period.
· Provide financial information and reports to management by researching and analyzing accounting data
· Manage and reconcile intercompany balances across multiple legal entities and regions
· Prepare GST/HST returns, reconciliations, and fillings
· Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, bank withdrawals to the financial system
· Prepare payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements
· Maintain accounting controls by following corporate policies and procedures in place and complying with IFRS and local financial legal requirements.
- Ensure accuracy of financial documents for payment, auditing and tax purposes
· Assist with project and initiatives withing the corporate finance team
· Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
· Performs other related duties as assigned with diligence and accuracy, while adhering to timelines
Qualifications:
· A post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
· 4+ years progressive experience in accounting
· Professional designation in accounting (or working towards) is an asset
Knowledge and Skills:
· Strong knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and regulations
· Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Power Point)
· Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
· Experience working with MS Dynamics and AS400 is an asset
· Working knowledge of IFRS
· Accounting experience in construction or a related industry preferred
· Strong understanding of intercompany accounting and reconciliations
· Excellent communications skills, written and spoken
· Ability to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Excellent time management skills
· High attention to detail, a positive attitude, and tact
· Able to work well independently or as a team player
· Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional manner
· Knowledge of German is an asset
