Position Summary
Johnstone Brothers Equipment Corp. and group of companies are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our in-house service team at our Woodbridge shop.
The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, inspecting, maintaining, and preparing heavy construction, paving, roadbuilding, municipal, and compacting equipment. This is a shop-based role working from our facility at 132 Ashbridge Circle, Woodbridge, supporting equipment repairs, customer machines, company-owned equipment, warranty work, inspections, and service preparation.
The ideal candidate is a dependable and experienced mechanic who can work efficiently in a busy shop environment, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and coordinate with the Service Manager, Parts Department, and other team members to complete repairs properly and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in-house repairs on heavy equipment, paving equipment, roadbuilding equipment, compactors, rollers, pavers, brooms, hot boxes, and related machinery.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, steering, and other mechanical components.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, troubleshooting, and repair work in the shop.
- Prepare equipment for customer delivery, rental, sale, demonstration, or return to service.
- Support warranty repairs, equipment inspections, machine set-up, and pre-delivery inspections where required.
- Inspect equipment and identify required parts, repairs, safety concerns, and recommended next steps.
- Coordinate with the Service Manager, Parts Department, and internal team to ensure repairs are completed efficiently.
- Complete service reports, work orders, time entries, parts usage, inspection notes, and related documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintain tools, shop areas, equipment, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Assist with loading, unloading, moving, or staging equipment around the shop or yard as required.
- Follow all company safety procedures, shop rules, and equipment handling requirements.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members regarding repair status, parts requirements, timelines, and priorities.
- Support other shop and service-related duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications
- Experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, shop mechanic, field service technician, or similar role.
- Strong experience with hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, diesel engines, and mechanical repairs.
- Experience with paving, roadbuilding, municipal, construction, or compacting equipment is strongly preferred.
- 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or 310T Truck and Coach Technician licence is an asset, but equivalent experience will be considered.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a shop/service team.
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record is preferred.
- Comfortable using phones, tablets, computers, or service software to complete work orders and documentation.
- Must be reliable, organized, safety-conscious, and able to manage changing repair priorities.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach to working with supervisors, co-workers, and customers when required.

The role will primarily involve work in the shop and yard, including diagnostics, repairs, inspections, maintenance, equipment preparation, and related service duties. Occasional local support, equipment movement, or customer-related assistance may be required, but this is not intended to be a mobile field service role.

The successful candidate should be able to take direction from the Service Manager, work effectively with the Parts Department and other mechanics, and help ensure equipment is repaired, prepared, and returned to service efficiently and professionally.
Pay: $25.00-$42.00 per hour
