Governance Officer

Position Purpose

Liaises with and advises members of the Board of Governors, the Senate and the senior administration, to ensure sound management of decision-making processes, and assists the Secretary General, in performing her mandate.

Essential Qualifications

University education or equivalent experience in administration, management or a related field
At least five years of progressive senior administrative experience in a corporate or public sector setting
Understanding of University governance structure, policies and procedures and of the functions of all the constituent components of the University
Knowledge of procedures and meeting practices and their potential impact on the activities of the Board, the Senate, the Administration Committee and their committees
Experience in conducting elections and knowledge of appointment procedures
Experience in interpreting and applying legislation, by-laws and regulations
Experience in project management
Experience in using computer software and systems such as databases, spreadsheets, email, electronic agendas and the Internet
Highly developed oral and written communication skills
Ability to clearly identify issues, assess information in a logical manner and then act, in situations that are ambiguous or highly sensitive
Superior interpersonal skills to deal with a wide variety of stakeholders
Ability to manage complex, evolving agendas and adjust priorities in a high-pressure and dynamic environment, while maintaining a discrete, calm demeanour
A good political sense to ensure membership balance in University bodies
Strong analytical thinking and sound decision-making skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Bilingualism: fluency in French and English (spoken and written)
