What you will do
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the Manager of Communication Strategy and Media Relations is responsible for the development, implementation and measurement of communications strategies and plans that align with TOH’s brand messaging and its strategic direction.
The Manager supports a consistent internal and external brand messaging strategy that is reflected across all programs and services and serves as the chief media strategist for TOH. Working with the Chief Communications Officer, the manager is a key lead on issues and crisis communications matters and works closely with senior executives to provide strategic communications advice. The Manager is responsible for a team of communications strategists and media relations experts and ensures that their efforts consistently reflect TOH’s strategic direction and vision.
What you will bring
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or another relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
A minimum of five (5) years of progressive communications experience including work as a leader, project manager and writer;
A minimum of three (3) years leadership experience, including developing, planning and leading communications programs;
Experience leading a team of communications professionals and extensive knowledge of public relations trends;
Experience in leading internal and external communications strategies;
Direct experience with senior executives including the CEO;
Experience providing services to, working with and influencing senior internal clients, e.g., professionals and leadership;
Experience identifying and managing issues and providing strategic communications advice to senior management (verbally and in writing) in a complex and dynamic working environment;
Demonstrated leadership in the areas of reputational management and crisis communications;
Excellent organizational, time management and critical thinking skills with the ability to use good judgment for assessing and responding to difficult situation;
Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information and to manage multiple and competing priorities;
Demonstrated ability to develop, execute and evaluate multifaceted media relations programs required;
Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to take complex/clinical information and quickly translate it to compelling messages to reach varying audiences required;
Ability to synthesize complex/sensitive material in order to craft persuasive recommendations and creative copy;
Proven abilities in the areas of communications planning and execution, content management, digital media, crisis communications, account management and issues management;
Strong understanding of the mobile-first, omni-channel environment;
Experience providing briefings on complex issues in a clear and concise manner;
Proven capabilities in human and financial resource management, and ability to resolve conflicts;
Proven abilities in building partnerships and/or collaborative working relationships with a wide variety on internal and external stakeholders;
Sound strategic advice, judgment, initiative, creativity, flexibility, tact and diplomacy, as well as experience in dealing with conflict situations and sensitive issues that reflect on corporate image;
Demonstrated capabilities in managing complex multiple projects to completion;
Calm under pressure, a multi-tasker, excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results on demand;
Results oriented with the ability to work in a self-directed and independent manner;
Proven ability to mentor and coach junior staff to grow into emerging leaders.
You will stand out with:
Experience working in a health-care environment preferred with demonstrated experience communicating complex issues to multiple audiences an asset;
Significant experience in researching, writing and editing communications plans and products under tight deadlines with clear and simple language, using technical, complex or sensitive information or documents;
Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
