Job Summary
The HCA/Personal Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting and mentoring youth with disabilities, behavioral needs, or complex support requirements. This position involves providing compassionate, structured, and consistent care while fostering a safe and supportive environment where the youth can build confidence, independence, and life skills.
We are seeking a strong, patient, and engaging full-time male support worker to work one-on-one with a male youth client. This role is ideal for someone who can provide positive mentorship, emotional regulation support, and consistent structure while building a meaningful and trusting relationship.
This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate will be confident, emotionally regulated, proactive, and experienced in supporting youth with complex behavioral and emotional needs. The HCA/Personal Support Worker will collaborate closely with office administration, family members, and the support team to ensure consistent and effective care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support in the home and community, including assistance with daily living activities and personal care
- Implement individualized support plans tailored to the youth’s needs and goals
- Provide one-on-one mentorship and behavioural support
- Support participation in schoolwork, routines, and structured activities
- Assist with community outings, recreation, and social engagement
- Encourage respectful communication, emotional awareness, and positive interactions
- Support emotional regulation during periods of dysregulation or escalation
- Utilize communication supports such as visuals, AAC devices, PECS, or other tools when appropriate
- Assist with life skills development, including cleaning, laundry, organization, and independence-building
- Maintain consistent supervision and proactive engagement to ensure safety at all times
- Accurately document care provided, progress, incidents, and behavioural observations
- Participate in ongoing training and development to remain current with best practices
- Collaborate with family and the support team to maintain consistency in approach and expectations
- Assist with lifting or physical support as required to ensure the youth’s safety and comfort
Qualifications & Experience:
- Health Care Aide certificate or equivalent experience
- Experience in disability services, youth work, behavioural support, or social services
- Previous experience supporting youth with autism, developmental disabilities, or complex behaviours
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in high-pressure situations
- Experience supporting youth through escalations while maintaining a calm and safe environment
- Skilled in managing high-needs behaviours with patience, empathy, and professionalism
- Physical ability to assist with lifting and supportive tasks as needed
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Child Intervention Check
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
