Bi-Weekly Hours: On demand - rotating 12 hr shiftsThe incumbent will assist with and provide, under supervision, basic nursing care for patients which will include care for patients suffering from acute or persistent, enduring mental illness and also patients experiencing severe intellectual disabilities. Rotation to all units in the hospital will be required at times. The LPN will work under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Duties will include: - providing for the physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual needs of the mentally ill client;- providing effective communication through charting as well as written and verbal reports;- capable of performing sterile and non-sterile techniques;- providing guidance to non-professional staff;- other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: - Must have successful completion of a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing Program.- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Prince Edward Island.- Successful completion of the pharmacology training, health assessment, and administration course is required.- Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, family and staff.- Must be capable of sustained physical activity and physical ability to complete personal care.- Must have a good previous work and attendance record.Other Qualifications: - Previous experience working in a psychiatric setting would be an asset.- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to beginning employment.Note: The collaborative care model on PEI is a province-wide initiative that will involve service delivery changes in all areas of the health system including acute care, long term care, home care, and primary health care. This model sees teams of providers working collaboratively to their full scope of practice to ensure the patient’s, client’s, or resident’s needs are met in a coordinated, consistent, and timely matter. The collaborative care model has not yet been implemented in all unit/work sites. Staffing levels may change upon its introduction and will be in accordance with respective collective agreements and union consultation.
