The Catering supervisor ensures the successful delivery and execution of all catering services, by monitoring and supervising on-site and off-site events. They will be the principal point of contact for catering clients and, as such, represents the entire YUSC Catering operation by accommodating client needs in a positive & supportive way whilst providing quick and efficient service. Organizing, monitoring, and supporting the general Catering Service staff is also a key component of the supervisor position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Operations
· Process Banquet Events Order forms and prepare all smallware and display materials for execution of events.
· Execute Day-to-day functions regarding the execution of on-site and off-site catering & events.
· Be the principle point of contact on the day of the event for on-site functions clients when the catering manager is not present.
· Be the principal client point of contact for off-site catering services as filtered by the Catering Coordinator.
· Supervise catering staff to ensure proper operations and provide direction.
· Check on our guests and problem solve any issues our guests may have.
· Work within the YUSC Service, Kitchen & Management teams and become an effective group contributor and supporter of our positive work environment and work effectively with your fellow colleagues.
- Track products and place linen, wine & liquor orders.
- Check products daily and alert Kitchen Staff and fellow managers of requirements and shortages.
- Perform cash handling functions regarding bar service.
B. Human Resources
· When applicable, guides and assists all service employees and junior staff ensures support for all developmental plans and ensures all standards are followed
· Adhere to anti-oppression training and bring a positive & inclusive attitude to work
C. Financial
· Under the guidance of the Catering Coordinator, monitor event staffing levels and product usage, ensuring reductions in staffing and cost savings as needed.
D. Administration
· Attend departmental meetings as needed.
- Perform monthly inventory counts for the conference center and provide completed reports for review to the Catering Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
· Routinely moves various event infrastructure and equipment around YUSC & event spaces including tables, chairs, pipe & drape etc.
· Ability to move around spaces in a timely manner is required.
· Heavy lifting is also a required aspect of the job and lifting weights up to 75 lbs. is necessary.
· Most events are performed within our conference center and meeting room facilities, at times, events may take place outside of our facilities in open air / outdoor environments, exposed to the elements.
· Standing / Sitting for long periods of time.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Minimum 1-year experience in a food service capacity of any kind is an asset
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with people.
- Excellent organization and communication skills (oral and written).
- Ability to work as an effective member of a team in a high-volume environment.
- Understand health & safety/Covid protocols.
- Smart Serve and Food Handler certification.
