The 310T Licensed Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on ICAP’s fleet of highway tractors, trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on trucks and trailers
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and air systems
- Complete safety inspections and required repairs in accordance with applicable regulations
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, braking, suspension, steering, and electrical systems
- Inspect and repair air brake systems
- Diagnose and repair ABS and other electronic vehicle systems
- Review driver defect reports and complete necessary repairs
- Perform emergency and breakdown repairs as required
- Conduct road tests and diagnostic testing following repairs
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts, and labour
- Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately and on time
- Identify potential equipment issues before they become major failures
- Maintain parts and shop inventory as required
- Communicate equipment issues and repair requirements with the Fleet/Maintenance Manager
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable Ministry of Transportation regulations
- Assist and provide technical guidance to apprentices and other shop personnel when required
- Perform welding and fabrication work when required
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new truck technologies and diagnostic systems
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- Valid 310T Truck and Coach Technician licence — required
- Minimum 3 years of experience working on heavy trucks and/or commercial transportation equipment
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, steering, and braking systems
- Experience diagnosing electrical and electronic systems
- Strong understanding of air brake systems
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Own basic mechanic tools required for the position
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced fleet maintenance environment
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Safety-conscious with a strong understanding of shop and fleet safety practices
Additional Assets
- AZ/DZ driver's licence
- Trailer repair experience
- Welding and fabrication experience
- Experience working on Freightliner, Volvo, Peterbilt, Kenworth, International, or similar heavy trucks
- Experience with electronic diagnostic software
- Experience working with fleet maintenance or transportation management systems
