Overview
Sambro Fisheries is seeking a dependable and experienced Truck Driver to join our team in Sambro Nova Scotia.
This is a full time, permanent position.
The Sambro Fisheries driver will be responsible for picking up and transporting fresh and frozen seafood within Cape Breton and Mainland Nova Scotia. The driver is responsible for day trips in a refrigerated straight-truck. This is not a long-haul role.
Applicants must hold a valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (or a higher-class license, such as Class 1 or Class 2, with Air Brakes). Candidates who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
Due to the seasonal nature of the seafood industry, flexibility to work variable hours is required. Applicants must currently reside in Nova Scotia.
Duties
- Safely operate Class 3 straight-truck to transport fresh seafood throughout Nova Scotia
- Ensure all products are properly loaded, secured, and handled to maintain quality and safety standards
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain truck, report and address maintenance concerns, and schedule maintenance accordingly
- Maintain accurate logbooks and documentation
- Communicate effectively with staff and clients regarding loading and offloading schedules
- Follow all applicable traffic laws, transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies
- Assist with loading and unloading products when required
Qualifications
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brakes endorsement (Required)
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry safety standards
- Clean drivers abstract
- Previous experience operating commercial trucks or large vehicles is preferred
- Strong commitment to safe, efficient, and professional driving practices
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Forklift operating experience/certification is an asset
- Ability to work flexible and variable hours based on seasonal fishing and landing schedules
