THE OPPORTUNITY: DIRECTOR, LEGACY GIVING
As Calgary Health Foundation's Director, Legacy Giving, you will provide strategic leadership for the development and growth of the Legacy Giving Program, ensuring donors are engaged with professionalism, care, and integrity throughout their philanthropic journey. Working collaboratively across fundraising, stewardship, marketing, and volunteer networks, the role strengthens donor trust, expands community support, and helps secure transformational future revenue that advances the organization’s mission for generations to come.
Key accountabilities of the role include:

Lead the strategic planning, execution, and growth of the Legacy Giving Program, establishing annual goals, performance metrics, and donor engagement strategies aligned with fundraising best practices.

Build, manage, and steward a portfolio of legacy giving prospects and confirmed donors through all stages of moves management, including cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and estate administration in accordance with donor intent and organizational policies.

Develop and strengthen relationships with donors, volunteers, and professional advisors (e.g., lawyers, estate planners, financial advisors) to expand referral networks, enhance donor confidence in planned giving, and grow legacy giving participation.

Collaborate cross-functionally with the broader philanthropy team, stewardship, marketing, communications, operations, and technology teams, integrating legacy giving across donor touchpoints, to create compelling donor communications, stewardship initiatives, and recognition programs.

Produce regular reports and strategic insights on portfolio performance, pipeline health, and program outcomes to support organizational decision-making.

Provide leadership and mentorship to legacy and other members of the philanthropy team, fostering a collaborative, donor-centric culture while supporting recruitment, professional development, and team performance management.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraising leader with a strong background in legacy, planned giving, donor relations, and demonstrated success developing and growing strategic fundraising programs. Possessing deep knowledge of legacy giving best practices, estate administration, donor stewardship, and moves management, the successful incumbent will utilize their strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills to engage donors, volunteers, and professional advisors while fostering a collaborative, donor-centric team culture. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strategic thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to integrate legacy giving initiatives into broader organizational fundraising priorities to secure long-term philanthropic support.
Additional qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.

A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fundraising.

A minimum of 3 years of management or supervisory experience.

Demonstrated success managing donor portfolios, cultivating high-value donor relationships, and securing philanthropic commitments.

Direct experience working with CRM and donor database systems, including pipeline management, reporting, and moves management tracking.

Experience working with estate administration processes and collaborating with legal, financial, and estate planning professionals is strongly preferred.

Professional experience within the not-for-profit and/or registered charity sector is strongly preferred.

CFRE designation and/or membership in professional fundraising associations is strongly preferred.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It is expected that the starting salary for this position will be in the range of $120,000 - $130,000, aligned with the successful candidate's experience and skill set.
