The International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) offers a full range of programs and services to support international students during their stay at Western.
As a member of the International and Exchange Student Centre (IESC) team, the position works closely and collaboratively with IESC staff on various projects, programming, and in service delivery that responds to emerging needs of an increasingly diverse student population, and to foster international student engagement and persistence. The incumbent will assist with the planning, coordination, promotion, and evaluation of in-person and virtual events and community-building opportunities with a focus on international student orientations, transition programs, programs to support and engage international students, and events fostering cross-cultural connections and understanding.
The incumbent will also collaborate with other student groups and campus stakeholders that support international students.
The incumbent will work closely with the communications team of Western International in coordinating IESC social media accounts, and developing marketing and promotional outreach strategies to increase student engagement.
Responsibilities include contacting and booking venues; preparing event materials and publicity; assisting with training and supervision of volunteers; attending, facilitating and assisting with supervision of events; and preparing event summaries. The incumbent will also be responsible for promoting events through the IESC’s social media, and campus outreach.
The incumbent will support IESC with day-to-day service delivery tasks, and special projects as required.
Must be available:
23 hours per week from June 1, 2020 – April 30, 2021; hours are to be split into 4-5 shifts taking place from Monday to Friday between 9:00 am – 4:00 pm., some evenings and weekends will be required
Thursdays from 2:30 – 5:30 pm for Global Cafés
International Student Orientation Days in September, January, and April
To start, must be able to work remotely for shifts during regular business hours, and must be able to transition to in-person work at Western International once university resumes on-campus operations.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. This position is intended to provide work experience in international education for a recent university graduate.
Event planning experience required
Social Media engagement and management experience required
Exceptional intercultural competency awareness; experience working with diverse communities & cultures
Experience supporting international students in a post-secondary environment
Previous experience with the International and Exchange Student Centre as a volunteer or program participant preferred

Excellent computer skills, including
Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with graphic design, editing, and website software (Canva, Photoshop, Convio, Cascade (preferred but not required)
Familiarity with Hootsuite, Buffer, or other social media scheduling platforms
Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of Western University, Western International, and its services
Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western's policies and procedures
Multilingual skills would be an asset
