What is the opportunity?
Reporting to the Vice-President, Distributed Hosting Services, the incumbent has full responsibility and accountability for the strategy and operations of the Windows Server Infrastructure across all business lines for RBC. This includes full decision making authority, planning, operational support and delivery of Windows technologies across the enterprise.
This role will have full accountability over staff, assets, regulatory requirements, and professional service management in multiple regions across the enterprise.
This role will not only be fully accountable for the Windows estate within RBC’s Technology & Operations, but will be expected to contribute as a member of the Distributed Hosting Services leadership team. In addition to being a leadership position with full accountability for the Windows Infrastructure across the enterprise, this position will also guide, influence, and execute on transformational and strategic initiatives that impact Technology Infrastructure and its business partners.
Key areas of focus will include:
Provide support RBC’s Data Centre strategies
Development of Windows Server Infrastructure distributed computing strategies, a major driver of cost innovation at RBC;
Support RBC’s Data Centre program / migration / management efforts
Hosting Delivery Services (life-cycle management) to ensure the safety and soundness as well as cost effectiveness of the Windows Server Infrastructure across the enterprise
Define, develop, and lead opportunities for service level and cost optimization (deploying Lean-Six-Sigma or similar approaches) to improve the operational environment and delivery of infrastructure services to Tech Infrastructure business partners.
This position provides technical leadership globally across across multiple lines of business for Windows Infrastructure technologies to meet the growing business requirements, audit and regulatory requirements, project planning and strategic decision making.
The priorities of the teams reporting to this individual are directly aligned to the organization’s strategy, and will be achieved as they will deliver upon operational excellence and deploy physical hardware and Windows server infrastructure and technologies required to accomplish these organizational goals
In addition, this position will drive strategic vendor relationships and lead negotiations that support bottom line results for Distributed Hosting Services in upwards of $120MM in annual spend.
Enable the T&O agenda of “Run the Bank” by building capabilities to run IT like a business with respect to the Distributed Hosying Services operating model.
This leadership position oversees an annual budget of over $10MM NIE (including ~20MM in Capital) and over ~20 FTE situated around the globe.
What will you do?
Develop and establish global framework for teams to operate within; encompassing all business lines; management of Windows Operations Support teams.
Manage and define Windows server technologies implementation standards Windows Server Infrastructure for P&CB, Capital Markets, Wealth Management , Investor and Treasury Services and Insurance; provide leadership and guidance in managing and coordinating the introduction of new installations and maintenance to server systems, technologies, and associated operating system
Strategically design, document, plan and implement global physical infrastructure components and assure failover and high availability
Collaborate with Hosting, Network, Storage, End User Engineering teams, Architecture, Engineering, Cloud Operations DevOps and Business Alinged Services on strategy design of the distributed hosting environments on “Run the Bank” and Change the Bank” capabilities.
Develop and manage vendor relationships for product roadmaps, emerging server technologies. Drive negotiations and manage estate and overall cost pools for HW / SW / Licenses
Collaborate with peers within the Distributed Hosting Services team ( Capital Markets, Wealth Management, Investor and Treasury Services) to ensure the virtual and physical server infrastructure is strategically positioned within the enterprise (i.e. Systems Management, Hardware, Asset Management, audit compliance, etc.)
Provide supporting budgetary input and financial planning, resource allocation, and project management oversight for Windows Server Infrastructure.
What do you need to succeed?
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent), 10+ years operating and managing large globally dispersed Unix Infrastructure leveraging Site Reliability Enginering and Agile methodologies. Deploying Infrastructre as Code solutions across the Windows Server Infrastructure.
Excellent blend of technology and business skills
Proven ability to lead and mentor staff
Extensive experience automating and provisioning infrastructure
Team player with the desire to own projects and the ability to work with minimal guidance in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience in managing operations and projects with multiple models of deliver
