As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a dependable, hands-on Equipment Technician / Hangar Custodian to support the maintenance of technical equipment, company assets, and hangar facilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems while also taking pride in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient work environment.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Equipment Technician / Hangar Custodian is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, organization, and operational readiness of company equipment, technical systems, fleet assets, and hangar facilities. This is a highly hands-on position that combines electronics troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, networking support, fabrication assistance, inventory management, and general facility upkeep.
Working closely with engineering, flight operations, and maintenance teams, the successful candidate will help ensure equipment remains reliable, facilities are well maintained, and day-to-day operations run efficiently. This position requires someone who is mechanically inclined, technically curious, organized, and comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced operational environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Equipment & Electronics
- Assemble, repair, and maintain low-voltage electronic equipment and systems.
- Perform soldering, crimping, wiring, cable fabrication, and connector repairs.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and repair electronic devices, sensors, and monitoring equipment.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot GPS tracking devices and related systems.
- Support methane gas detection equipment, thermal imaging systems, and leak detection technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and electronic faults.
- Assist with RFI/EMI shielding and mitigation where required.
Computer Systems & Networking
- Configure and troubleshoot IP-based devices and local networks.
- Support RTSP video streams, digital cameras, and remote monitoring systems.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows 11, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS systems.
- Support servers, storage platforms, and backup systems including Unraid and FreeFileSync.
- Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Maintain technical documentation and service records.
Equipment & Fabrication Support
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
- Assist with prototype fabrication and equipment assembly.
- Create or modify simple CAD models when required.
- Support CNC setup, G-code editing, and manufacturing activities.
- Produce labels, decals, signage, and equipment identification using vinyl cutting systems.
Fleet & Asset Management
- Maintain company equipment inventories and asset tracking records.
- Coordinate equipment inspections, maintenance schedules, and lifecycle documentation.
- Prepare equipment for deployment and ensure operational readiness.
- Support fleet tracking and company vehicle maintenance coordination.
Hangar & Facility Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe hangar and workshop environment.
- Perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Assist with facility organization, storage management, and equipment relocation.
- Operate small tractors and equipment for snow removal and grounds maintenance.
- Support shipping, receiving, material handling, and warehouse organization as required.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and operational procedures.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Document maintenance activities, equipment defects, and corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate service records and inventory documentation.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
- Support cross-functional teams during field deployments and technical projects.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned by the Company from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Experience working with low-voltage electrical and electronic systems.
- Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, crimping, and cable assembly.
- Working knowledge of Windows 11, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS.
- Basic networking knowledge including IP configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience troubleshooting technical equipment and computer systems.
- Familiarity with GPS devices, digital cameras, or electronic monitoring equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Class G Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift equipment and perform physically demanding work.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while supporting multiple teams.
Preferred
- Experience with Python programming.
- Familiarity with Unraid, FreeFileSync, or similar storage solutions.
- Fibre optic installation or troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with methane gas detection or thermal imaging systems.
- Knowledge of RFI/EMI mitigation techniques.
- Experience using CAD software.
- CNC machining or G-code programming experience.
- Aviation, aerospace, or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) experience.
- Experience working in a hangar, manufacturing, or technical maintenance environment.
Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel
- The position is an onsite role, and the Employee is required to perform their duties primarily at the Company’s designated workplace, as directed by the Company.
- The standard work schedule consists of forty (40) hours per week, typically performed Monday to Friday, subject to operational requirements.
- From time to time, the Employee may be required to maintain reasonable flexibility in working hours to support operational needs, time-sensitive activities, or business priorities.
- Comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind during field assignments, equipment maintenance, and groundskeeping activities.
- May be required to work at heights, around aircraft, heavy equipment, and industrial machinery while following established safety procedures.
