Our department

The Department of Human Nutrition at the University of Otago is the longest established department of its kind at a New Zealand University, is the World Health Organisation collaborating centre for the Western Pacific region and is the only New Zealand University to offer Foodservice management and International nutrition at undergraduate level.

Undergraduate degrees include BSc and BSc(Hons) in Human Nutrition, and BAppSc and BAppSc(Hons) in Sport and Exercise Nutrition. In addition, a range of postgraduate options in Human Nutrition, Sport and Exercise Nutrition and Dietetics are available at Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and PhD level.

The role

We are seeking to appoint a full time, permanent (confirmation path) Lecturer in Foodservice Management. In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Developing new courses, teaching materials, and assessing student performance.
  • Contributing to the research activities of our Department, including publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, obtaining external funding support and supervising research students.
  • Contributing to the effective and efficient running of the Department and its responsibilities within the University and wider community.
Your skills and experience

You will ideally have extensive experience in foodservice management with demonstrated success in teaching and research, as well as:
  • A doctoral degree in Food Service/Systems Management, Hospitality, Nutrition or closely related field.
  • Be eligible for registration as a New Zealand Dietitian.
  • Have a commitment to quality University education.
